hey guys - i have been burned b4 by the trump - i really want to goto vegas this weekend and stay at venetian or wynn. i want to bid on a 5 star north strip but worried about getting the trump again. is there any filter or anything i can do to request a hotel with a casino? if so that would eliminate the trump. any help would be great.

thanks,

joseph

I'll do a separate post on my win in a moment - but in response to this thread, just wanted to point out that I just now booked the Wynn through Priceline for the weekend of March 27-29, for $119 per night. I was fairly certain I would get the Venetian, the Palazzo or the Wynn - and not the Trump - because I checked Hotwire first and found that the 5-star condo (which is Hotwire-ese for "the Trump") was actually going for $20 more than the 5-star hotel on those days. And sure enough, I got the Wynn.

Or was there a possibility that I might have gotten the Trump anyway? I realize there is no "foolproof" method when it comes to opaque booking sites, but isn't this about as foolproof as it gets?

thanks - but to extend the analogy, i'll wait for a response from the administrator before taking that to the bank.

seems like, if hotels are using the same technology to respond to HOTWIRE and PRICELINE requests, then when the price for a condo is higher than the price for a hotel on hotwire, the hotel will also be cheaper on priceline. doesn't it? (granted, i don't claim to be any sort of expert on this.)

The only foolproof method to avoid the Trump is to use HOTWIRE and select a hotel which shows the Casino icon.

The theory above, while logical, doesn't play out in reality since HOTWIRE since HOTWIRE's mark-up on hotel prices is not constant. For example, CondoA offers a room to HOTWIRE at $100 and HotelB offers a room at $110, HOTWIRE marks-up CondoA by 25% ($125), and marksup HotelB by 10% ($121), which makes the Condo appear more expensive, when in reality it is the lower priced property :)

I've been browsing here a while, and just want to take this opportunity to commend the mods. You all are WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too patient when it comes to the number of posts asking how to avoid Trump, considering it is spelled out in detail in the FAQ and gets posted about every other day. You are better people than I.
