manum Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Hello,This is my first post to betterbidding.com. I've been browsing this forum now for 3 hours - very interesting!I'm travelling to LA (flying from LV) with my wife on 12th of June 2009. I've never been to US before, which also means LA is new to me.I've currently booked a hostel private room for $89 dollars, but I think I could get a real hotel for the same price (or even cheaper) :-)I don't know what Star level I should look for, but maybe someone can help. My budget is $90 per night. My only actual requirement is, that the hotel should be near a metro, and I guess if I stay in Downtown/Hollywood area, then that should be possible. But would it be possible, that I get a hotel that is too far from metro? I'm just a metro-lover and in every city I've been it usually takes me easily from place A to place B.The places we'd like to visit are Universal Studios and some other things in Hollywood :-)Thanks in advance!Br,ManuP.S. Sorry if I posted this post incorrectly ;-)
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, manum. With your $90 budget you can get something better than a hostel. If you want to be near Metro your best choices are Priceline's Hollywood and Downtown zones. Are you only in LA the one night, June 12?The Roosevelt and Renaissance are the only reported 4* hotels in Hollywood zone. Both hotels are a very short walk to the Metro, which you can take Downtown or to Universal Studios. I'm not sure if $90 will be enough for your dates but a Hollywood 4* will probably be your best bet if you can get it.For less than $90 you might get a Hollywood 3*, also near Metro.Or you could try for a 3.5* or 4* Downtown. That will probably cost less than Hollywood ($55-75'ish usually), and still put you within walking distance of Metro. There's less activity Downtown though, especially on weekends. If you're only in LA for one night I'd favor Hollywood.Let us know if we can be of further help. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links when you bid.
inspiration100 Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 For about $85 I believe you have a shot at winning the 4* Westin Bonaventure downtown. I'd work your way up from $70. They seem to be putting lots of rooms on priceline. I'd ditch the hostel, I hate those, I dunno about you.Hollywood tends to be a little more $. Downtown probably has the better Metro also. If you did win the Westin, the bus service is one block down and only costs $0.25 per person to get to Union Station which has alot of buses going to and from.I'd give her a try! The Seattle hotel guy.... Stayed in 14 hotels downtown and counting! Favorite Hotel Downtown: The Camlin Seattle (It's now a timeshare)
manum Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks for answer. I'm staying for 3 nights and I'd prefer Hollywood. I'll try for 4* in Hollywood first.. let's see where it takes me. The westin sounds good also, but I really like metros :) I'll keep you guys posted!Btw.. the Westin now has some kind of promotion. Rates for $99 or so.. a limited time offer.
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 The westin sounds good also, but I really like metros Just to be clear about LA's Metro...you take the same Red Line train whether you're in Hollywood or Downtown. The Red Line connects those areas. There's a Metro station a few blocks from the downtown Westin and Marriott.Good luck with your bidding, whatever you decide. Please let us know what you get.
thereuare Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'll try for 4* in Hollywood first.. let's see where it takes me.If you let us know your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. manum Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 $90 (plus possible taxes) is my absolute max. About metros: Yeah, I don't know anything about LA Metros. I plan to see some Hollywood attractions including Universal Studios. So whatever hotel is fine that has good connections to Hollywood. Of course the best option would be to have a hotel in Hollywood :-)
thereuare Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 At the 4* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Hollywood...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90.Any questions feel free to ask.If/when the above is rejected, do you then want to try for a 4* in the Downtown zone or try for a 3.5* in Hollywood? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. inspiration100 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Well done! Beats the Westin! I've heard this is the best hotel downtown. Please let me know what you think of this hotel, as I often go to downtown LA after riding the Coast Starlight from Seattle. The Seattle hotel guy.... Stayed in 14 hotels downtown and counting!
