skaistda Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 Hi,We will be staying in san diego march 20-22, and i'm looking for a priceline bidding strategy. I've never used priceline before so i'm a little lost. I'm looking for a 3* somewhere downtown, seaworld, or mission valley. I'm not really sure where to start on price.Would a $55 starting bid be too low? high? please help!thanks!
thereuare Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. As it appears you're trying to do better than the HOTWIRE rate above, we'll start with PRICELINE.However, we don't want to suggest a strategy that goes higher than you're willing to bid... let us know your maximum bid for this stay and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- can you also post the contents of the letter you received from HOTWIRE as a reply to your Good Nite Inn thread. Also, if you go to the MY ACCOUNT link on the top right of HOTWIRE's home page, is that win still listed there? If so, does it show a star rating associated with it? Thanks! skaistda Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 I'd like to pay no more than $70/night for a 3 star hotel in san diego, hopefully in downtown/mission valley.I saw a few wins for this timeframe at $53. but this hotel is far outside of the san diego area. Is $55 too low for a starting bid?
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'd like to pay no more than $70/night for a 3 star hotel in san diego, hopefully in downtown/mission valley.Downtown and Mission Valley are very different areas. Most visitors prefer Downtown over Mission Valley because there's more to do Downtown, and you can walk there. Mission Valley is more freeways and shopping mall atmosphere. But hotels in Mission Valley usually cost less than Downtown, and have lower parking charges. $70 is probably enough for a 3* in either zone. Are you looking for the least expensive 3* in either zone? Or do you want to bid to your $70 limit Downtown first; then if that fails try for Mission Valley?
skaistda Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Yeah, I'd like to find the least expensive 3* in either area. I understand the pros and cons to both; i would rather stay downtown but mainly due to parking fees i would be okay with mission valley as well. I found a 2.5 star in mission valley which i think is the la quinta which got good reviews, but if i can get a 3* downtown for cheaper, than why bother? however, if the price is near that, and i have to pay parking downtown, then it's not cheaper. what do you think? is it worth starting as low as $55 for a 3 star downtown?
skaistda Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 The la quinta mission valley is $69 a night on HOTWIRE, btw.
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 what do you think? is it worth starting as low as $55 for a 3 star downtown?I think $55 is a realistic bid for a 3* Downtown but after parking (depending which 3* hotel you win) the $69 La Quinta could be less expensive bottom line. The La Quinta will have free breakfast too, which a 3* Downtown probably won't.It's not for me to say whether the extra cost of staying Downtown is "worth it". Even with parking fee a 3* Downtown at $55 and La Quinta at $69 will come out pretty close, less than $10 apart.
