nools-uk Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I am visiting New York the beginning of April...primarily with my 14yr old Gran'son ..but my daughter's not one to be left behind! I am hoping to get a Hotel Room through 'Better Bidding' ....but how do I get a room with 2 beds? and if I get a room with 1 bed...would it be acceptable to contact the hotel and ask about a 3rd bed / roll away to be put in the room?? This will be my first time bidding...so all 'tips'...will be welcome.....as I am a 'Gran'mother' after all!...How or where do some 'bidders' get a clue as to the hotel they might be bidding on!......Looking forward to plenty of 'replies' PLEASE! :
dahammer Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 welcome!the best suggestion is to consider HOTWIRE as you can search for up to 4 adults per room, this will insure that you will have sleeping accomodations for all. HOTWIRE defines this as being a room with two double beds or as sparse as a double bed with a pull out "sofa bed" or even a cot. We can help to identify the property if you list your dates of travel, star rating and zone, number of guests, and the amenities associated with the HOTWIRE listing.Good Luck, your Gran's are lucky to have you bring them across the pond for a NYC Holiday! :)
nools-uk Posted March 10, 2009 Author Report Posted March 10, 2009 Great help already...suggesting 'Hotwire'.....My dates are Thurs 2nd April for 2/3 nights......MTE/CPS.....3.5stars......to sleep 4 people as you suggest! Many thanks Nools-uk

nools-uk Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Your PRICELINE FAQ was a great help to me. I've done a huge amount of reading through PRICELINE / HOTWIRE guides and decided to go with priceline. and I'm ready to commit but I still don't understand how you can guess a hotel thru' priceline......or can you only guess through Hotwire......where you can look at the Zone and amenities. I am thinking of bidding $80 thru' PL.....(I know it's low) ....am prepared to go to $100.....for 4* hotel MTE...(Grand Hyatt sounds nice and people have got it for under$100)failing that I'll bid for 3.5* MSG (??Affinia Manhatton.....(also bought under $100).....My dates are 04/02/09 to 04/05/09. I was originally looking for accommodation for 2 adults and 1 child..... but after all my reading -up .....many people suggested ringing Hotel after auction and requesting 2 beds! perfect! I'm not fussy what Zone my Hotel is in.....I just want it under $100. Thanks
thereuare Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, CPS, TS/TD, (and Downtown if you want this zone too...although personally i would hold off on adding Downtown just yet)...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100.Any questions feel free to ask. I've left off one re-bid zones intentionally. Start with the above and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. nools-uk Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Hello Again.....After much oscillating between Priceline and Hotwire Ive decided to go with Hotwire. thereuare Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Please see which of the above you can identify on your own by comparing to the Hotwire Hotel List.If any are unidentified, or you decide which one you would like, post the details and we'll confirm that we agree with the property you think HOTWIRE is offering. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nools-uk Posted March 21, 2009 Author Report Posted March 21, 2009 I identified most of the above...and have decided to discount Times Sq and Downtown Soho from my serch.....I am now looking at MTC, MTE MTW and chelsea......to-day there's not alot coming up on the Hotwire site for 2-7 Apr. inc.....2 adults 1 child.....There is however.... 3* Chelsea/Madison Gar Sq $139fitnessRestBusinessInternet would that be Wyndham Garden chelsea?Any other ideas for under $150......Lots more choice for just 2 people.....but could I risk just slipping my young Gran'son in??
thereuare Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 This property has not yet been identified and these amenities are VERY common in NYC, so it could be just about anything... a previously reported hotel with more/less amenities than previously reported OR a new hotel not yet reported to the board.Have you firmed your dates that this will now be a 5 nite stay from 4/2-4/7?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nools-uk Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 Just cannot find anything on Hotwire for dates 2-7 April inc.....2 adults 1 child.....don't want the Sheridan Towers....That leaves 2.5* ESB Com Br fitness Business int. ??Hampton Inn 35th St. or the Shelbourne Murray Hill (Quikbook) $147.......not sure how many beds.....but the reviews look good!Any better ideas...my time is running out. Still considering 4* for 2 adults (more options) and sorting my Gran'son out on arrival!
nools-uk Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 Yes! Definately firm dates! Hello! I need to know if I should give up on Hotwire and go for Quikbook instead......that has the Shelbourne Murray Hill for $147.....I put 2 adults +1 child in the serch..so presumably that would be for the 3 of us. I need you advise on what 4*hotels feel about asking for a child to sleep in a room booked for 2 adults!....Now that I have my dates fixed 2-7 april.....nothing seem to to turn up on Hotwire. Please help!

thereuare Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.the Shelbourne Murray Hill for $147.....I put 2 adults +1 child in the serch..so presumably that would be for the 3 of us.Quickbook's search engine doesn't factor in the number of adults/chidren entered, if you look at this offer it shows: Studio Suite - 1 Bed (2 ppl Max) so technically this would not be able to accomodate the three of you.Yes, the MTC property above is a match for the Holiday Inn Midtown so that would be our best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
