bigdog6668 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 hey i am new to the forum so hopefully i am posting in the right place.any suggestions on a hotel in Coronado, CA for March 10-12? i am looking for a four star on the island. hotwire lists a four star for 153. is this the marriot? i can get that rate with my AAA. what might i expect on PRICELINE?thanks and love the forum.
Colfax Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, bigdog6668.When you ask for ID it helps if you'll post the icons you see. Since Hotwire offerings can change at any time the icons help establish that the hotel I'm seeing now is the same hotel you were looking at this morning.I see a 4* for $161 on Coronado with these icons now:Resort, Near Beach, Smokefree, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Highspeed, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Children's Activities.Loew's Hotel is showing in Vacation Packages with those icons, so I think this is probably Loew's, not the Marriott.Priceline will usually beat Hotwire on price but you don't know which 4* hotel you'll be getting on Priceline. It could be Loew's or Marriott. I'd start bidding at $100 and go up in $5 increments until you hit the price where your AAA reservation is cheaper. Don't forget to leave a margin to cover Priceline's transaction fee. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links if you purchase. Let us know if you need further assistance.
bigdog6668 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 thanks for your help. it makes perfect sense.i did start at 100 and they did not accept my bid. is there a way i can rebid again today without waiting th 24 hours?thanks again for the site...
Colfax Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Yes, you can bid again without waiting 24 hours by using free rebid zones. It's explained here:Bidding Again Before 24 HoursThree of Priceline's fifteen San Diego zones have 4* hotels. The other twelve zones only have hotels less than 4*. Priceline will never give you a lower quality hotel than you bid for, so you can add those twelve zones to your 4* bids in Coronado without risk of winning a hotel in those other zones.SD Coastal and Downtown/Harbor Island zones have 4* hotels. Don't add those zones to your Coronado bid because you could win a 4* in one of them. All other zones are safe to add.Next step:Start with this PRICELINE link, select Coronado and Del Mar zones and bid $105 for a 4*. (It doesn't have to be Del Mar zone; just add any zone that only has hotels less than 4*.) If rejected add another free rebid and try $110. Keep adding zones and bump up $5 each time. Somewhere around $135 or $140 your AAA rate at the Marriott will become cheaper than Priceline, due to Priceline's transaction fee.Good luck and please let us know how your bidding goes. Ask if you don't understand.
