looker Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Need a room 3/6-3/8 in Berkeley by the university, near Shattuck/Univesity st. Priceline has a 4 star in Berkeley/Emeryville, I am assuming it is Clairmont resort but that is too far. There is also a 3.5* hotel but I have no idea which one it is as it is not offered on its regular page. Any suggestions?
sfchic Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 It's my "GUESS" it would be an upgrade to the 4* - which would be the Claremont. If you go to name your price and "bid" on the 3.5 star - it says the average price is $189 - flip back to the listings page and the Claremont is offered at $189. That's the only logic I can find.....
Colfax Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, looker."What's the 3.5* hotel in Berkeley-Emeryville?" has been asked here before. I don't think there is a 3.5* hotel in Berkeley-Emeryville. When Priceline has 4* and 3* hotels in a zone, but no 3.5*, they'll still offer the 3.5* biddding option. As sfchic speculates, if your 3.5* bid gets accepted it will be an upgrade to 4*.If you don't want the 4* Claremont the best bidding options in this zone are 3* and 2.5*. 2* bidding can result in an Extended Stay America that's far from campus. BUT the 3* and 2.5* hotels that come up (Four Points, Woodfin, Courtyard, Hilton Garden, Doubletree) are also at the opposite end of the zone from the university, mostly in Emeryville. Last time I was at the Doubletree they had a free shuttle service to campus, but I haven't confirmed that's still available. If you specifically want something along or near University Avenue you might have to book conventionally. La Quinta and Holiday Inn Express are on University, and also some cheaper places like Ramada and Travelodge.Do you see any possibilities on Hotwire? If you'll post icons someone will try to identify the hotel. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links when the time comes.
Colfax Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 La Quinta Berkeley, which is on University, has a weekend special for your dates at $89, which includes breakfast. To view click the "Special Deals" tab on La Quinta's homepage, then "Weekend Deals".
looker Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 Thank you sfchic.Thank you very much colfax for your very detailed response. I will revisit HOTWIRE, their 2.5 * includes Holiday Inn Express which would have to do this time around. Thank you again.
