ChrisLawn Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Hi,I'm a complete newbie to this so here goes. Im arriving in Vegas on 24th December for 8 nights. I would preferably like to stay in either the Belaggio or the Venetian. However, if this cannot be guaranteed, I will take any other 5* hotel that has a casino. This is a surprise for my wife and, at the end of the day, I'll just have to pay whatever is necessary to secure a room. In your opinion(s) what is the best strategy on Priceline and/or Hotwire to secure a room at the best possible price? Many thanks for taking the time to read this.Cheers,Chris
thereuare Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! To confirm, this is 12/24 --> 1/2 (check-out)What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? You're likely going to find that some of your nites are fairly inexpensive, and then rates will spike for New Years Eve (and possibly the day before)... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ChrisLawn Posted February 21, 2009 Author Report Posted February 21, 2009 Hi thereuare,The dates are 12/24--> 1/1 (check-out) i.e. 8 nights. After reading a fair bit of your site over the last few days I've decided, as you suggested, to split my bid because of the huge spike. I want to try and aim for the Venetian and bid for the last 2 nights first on Hotwire (through your site, of course ). The price is $649 per night on the Venetian site. Cheers,Chris
ChrisLawn Posted February 21, 2009 Author Report Posted February 21, 2009 I've just noticed that there is only a condo available on HOTWIRE for those days at $353 per night (Trump?). Looks like I'll have to go to PRICELINE now. Have you any suggestions as to how I can give myself a reasonable chance of getting The Venetian?Cheers,Chris

nick5 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Chris, since the week right after Christmas can have some good rates (with the exception of New Years), why not book the Venetian for the New Years night (s) directly from their web site. That way, you can still try with HOTWIRE as you can cancel reservations made with the hotel 72 hours before if you are able to secure a cheaper rate. (always read cancellation policies) Then if all else fails, at least you will have the trip ending you desire for your wife. Cheryl PS, Venetian is good about letting you have the cheaper rate if they drop their rates lower,, and with the economy what it is,, chances are, it will drop later in the year.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Hi,I wouldn't be particularly happy.Cheers,ChrisThen i wouldn't use PRICELINE for this stay... at least not at this point in time.Unless you're willing to accept the Trump, PRICELINE will not be a good option. Given the amount of time before your stay i would continue to search HOTWIRE for various date combinations to see if a 5* other than the Trump appears. How much are you willing to pay for the last two nites of your stay... is $650/nite within your expected budget? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
