mmp Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Like another poster, I'm attempting to get a 4* in NYC for 4/17-4/19 weekend; I am willing to stay in MTE/MTW/CPS areas. I used the "rebid" strategies and bid today, with no success, on 4*'s in these areas, starting at $110, incrementing by $5, ending my bidding at $130 which is about as high as I want to go.Didn't know the Pope was going to be there that weekend; it's also opening weekend for the new Yankee Stadium and Cirque du Soleil is in town; not sure how much of an impact any of these things have on room rates in NYC; maybe it's also time of year as has been previously mentioned that rates start to increase in Spring?I felt same as previous poster seeing lower rates obtained in MTE, but none of those rates were for this weekend. Also, prices are higher than what I'm bidding when I checked on Hotwire and regular travel search sites. I have been shut out of Manhattan previously trying to bid too low and ended up staying in Queens which was really inconvenient so am a bit "gun-shy".Anyway, will discuss with hubby maybe lowering star levels and try again soon; will advise of progress.I do enter PRICELINE site via BB as I always use BB and want to support. Thanks!
mmp Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 Sorry, was trying to add another post and somehow kept repeating previous; if a moderator sees and can delete duplicate, please feel free....Anyway, as I finished my post I saw Ellabella had success at $135 so decided to rebid one more time and was successful...I got a room at the Intercontinental Barclay (MTE) for $135 per night for a total of $326 for both nights (with tax...); they are currently going for $273 per night on their site. Thanks again!
thereuare Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Nice to see that the other thread prompted you to try again with an extra $5 and that was made the difference. Interesting though how you each received different hotels even when bid less than an hour apart (and a good example for others who want to stay at the same hotel as a friend as to why they should place one bid for two rooms rather than assuming each bidding at the same time will results in the same property)Glad you'll be staying in Manhattan this time around and you got a great deal. Thanks for sharing your win with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
