Hi,

I'm looking for 4 star hotel in Berlin from 20th to 24th of February 2009. I have found a hotel in "Mitte - Kreuzberg" on Hotwire (yes, of course, I'll use the HOTWIRE link from the forum) for $74 per night. The mentioned amenites are:

- suite

- breakfast included

- laundry access

- high-speed internet access

Traveller rating: 4.0 out of 5, Based on 40+ customer reviews (Last reviewed January 2009)

The amenities doesn't seem to help much because the first two seem to be an extra for this offer and the last two can't be found in the Tripadvisor hotel list.

Does anybody have an idea which hotel this could be?

Thanks and regards,

Mark

I don't know what hotel this is either, but I did check Expedia and found you can book the Angleterre, which is listed by Expedia as a 4* and is in this zone, for $72 per night for the package including breakfast. Berlin is typically a cheap city for hotels, unless there are special events happening, so I would not be inclined to book an unknown hotel when you can get a known hotel for cheaper. (I'm not sure I'd take the Angleterre either, but just pointing out better deals are probably available.)

Thanks for mentioning this hotel. I didn't want to insist on the unknown hotel, but the "Suite" amenity sounded nice for this price. But without being 99% sure which hotel it is, I wouldn't book it. The reason for posting here was to find out whether there is another possibility to compare amenities from HOTWIRE, e.g. the laundry.

Don't be misled by the "suite" description. This could just as easily be an extended-stay serviced apartment, and the presence of the coin-operated laundry suggests to me it is. They're often sold by the night when longer-term rentals are not forthcoming.

I agree with WillTravel, you should also compare this with optons of named hotels in Berlin, although I've never seen central Berlin 4* hotels for anything like $72, the Angleterre is typically over $200.

But do stick to Mitte, it's a great area!

I forgot to mention, you should check 'Speciality Lodging' under hotel listings on TripAdvisor when researching 'suite' accommodations.

For example, the Amary City Residence is comparable, although it doesn't match the description you got on Hotwire for location ... but one of the reviewers mentions getting a room through an 'anonymous' website for 40 EURO.

I have often seen the Angleterre for cheap prices, both directly like in this example and as a "top secret" selection on lastminute.co.uk, which is another site worth checking.

As for the coin-operated laundry, there seem to be many instances in Europe where the hotel does not actually have that amenity, even though HOTWIRE posts it. I'm not sure if there is some sort of cultural misunderstanding or what, but I wouldn't take it seriously.

Thanks for the last replys to this thread, and the helpful advises. I have booked the 4* Park Inn Alexanderplatz on the weekend for the mentioned four days for 333 EUR including breakfast (normally 15 EUR per day) and including the train journey through Germany (several hundred kilometers, normally for my route this would be near 100 EUR per direction if one wants to be fully flexible or the half of it with exactly chosen travel times) via Ameropa, a subsidiary company of Deutsche Bahn.
