h8stn4d Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I've been looking hard to try to figure these out.... stay is 2/21/09 - 2/22/09. Hotel #1 ($109): Gaslamp Quarter - Convention CenterFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-speed Internet AccessCustomer favorite, low price guarantee and best valueThe hotel list seems to suggest that this could be the Omni or Solamar. However, some posts have suggested that it could be the Hilton Gaslamp, even though I'm not seeing the tennis icon. The Omni would be great...but has anyone even gotten the Omni on Hotwire recently?Hotel #2 ($109): Downtown - Harbor IslandAirport ShuttleFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-speed Internet AccessTennis NearbyLow price guarantee, best valueI'm thinking this is the Sheraton Harbor Island. What do you think?
h8stn4d Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 I guess I have one other question about this bid....Is there any relationship between the hotels available through Hotwire air+hotel packages, and the hotels available through Hotwire, hotels only, for similar dates? For example, the Hilton Gaslamp isn't available as a package. Last night, the Solamar wasn't either, although now (this morning), it is...and it is less expensive than the Omni as a package. I'd much prefer the Omni, but now it's looking like they'll put me in the lower-priced (judging by the packages) Solamar....BTW, thank you for this forums and for all of your dedication! I plan to use the HOTWIRE links in these forums to support you.
thereuare Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can use the vacation packages for clues but it's far frrom conclusive... not all hotels which participate in the "opaque" (ie- hotel only) service also participate in the vacation service. As well, prices in the vacation product not based off of opaque rates (since it's not an 'opaque' product as the names of the hotels are shown before your purchase) and therefore there is not a direct correlation between the lowest priced offering on the vacation side of things and the hotel you will get thru the 'opaque' model (in addition to the previous comment that not all the hotels on one side of the HOTWIRE service also participate with the other side of their service)However, there's enough other information to gain more insight on your hotels above...For the Gaslamp Quarter property, this does match previous reports for the Hilton (which sometimes does/doesn't show a Tennis icon), the Omni, and the Solamar. However, if you click CONTINUE next to this offering and look to the right of the map on the ensuing page it shows a trripadvisor rating (4.0/5.0 with 200+ reviews) which is consistent with the Hilton and the Solamar, but not the Omni. So i think you can cross the Omni off the list as a potential candidate, narrowing it down to the Hilton and the Solamar, and either of these would be our best guess. The Downtown property is a match for the Sheraton so that would be our best guess for that one. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. h8stn4d Posted May 12, 2010 Author Report Posted May 12, 2010 Thanks for your help--as an update to this thread, we ultimately decided to take advantage of a promotional intro rate at the Se San Diego and booked directly. The rate was incredibly low and included parking and some spa treatment, if I recall. When we went, the hotel pool wasn't open and half the spa areas weren't open either. The room was ridiculously small and VERY loud. Not the best experience. We did not end up using HOTWIRE, but if I had, I absolutely would have used the HOTWIRE link.
