Colfax Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Hotwire had a standard for $14.95/day.Rejected Priceline bids: $7/Compact and $9/Midsize.Total with tax/fee on Priceline: $72.97Total on Hotwire: $89.55Lowest conventional rate: $127.98 from AlamoAt the entrance to the Hertz area a large posted sign said something like "Hotwire and Priceline Customers Please Use Hertz's Automated Kiosks. Other Hertz customers may use the kiosks if they like."This was my first time doing an automated car rental. I liked avoiding the insurance upsells and invitations to upgrade. But you can't ask a kiosk if there are any choices within your car class. The kiosk assigns and that's that. I got a Ford Fusion. Minneapolis was 11 degrees when I landed and all I cared about was getting a car with a working heater.I ended up needing a car for one more day. Hertz's additional day charge was $101.29!! I bid for the extra day separately and ended up having to go to $30. The $10 days were Thursday-Monday. The $30 day was a Mon-Tues.I bid through the PRICELINE link.
