thereuare Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! This property has not yet been identified. Before looking further for this stay, i noticed this is the last nite of your stay in this area, opting for a stay near the airport which i presumse is for an early flight out... what time is your flight and is it worthwhile to pack up your bags and move for the last nite of your stay vs. staying the last nite in the city and taking an early morning cab (without traffic) to the airport? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. dahammer Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 this is a guess, but I believe this could be the Holiday Inn which may be booked for a prepaid rate of $63 or a refundable rate of $71. Compare final "walk out" prices and the cancellable $71 price after taxes may be close to the non-refundable HOTWIRE price after taxes and fees. I was in this area earlier this week and was tempted to book the Holiday Inn at a direct rate of $59, but this property charges a $15 fee for parking and breakfast is extra, so I bid in Elizabeth and won the Country Inn and Suites. The only problem with this strategy for your stay is you are not guaranteed bedding for quad occupancy and may end up with a King. The Holiday Inn is close to the airport and wedged in between the Sheraton, the county prison, and access roads to Routes 1&9 near the airport. There is nothing to do within walking distance of this hotel. If the purpose of this stay is to bring in the luggage, crash for the night and get up for an early flight, this fits the bill. Please use the HOTWIRE and Holiday Inn links on this board if you proceed and good luck.
Momma Joe Posted January 24, 2009 Author Report Posted January 24, 2009 Our Flight leaves Newark at 6 am , so we are just looking for a place to throw the bags and crash for the night. No need to have anything within walking distance of the hotel. As long as there's a restaurant at or near the hotel , and it has an airport shuttle it'll be good enough for us.Would prefer to stay in Newark the night before our flt as opposed to another night in the city , as the Newark hotel would be so much cheaper than another night in NYC. Momma Joe
thereuare Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 and it has an airport shuttleOne other thing to keep in mind is that not all hotels run their shuttles 24 hours a day, so depending upon what time you want to leave for the airport, the shuttle may not be running at that early hour. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Momma Joe Posted January 25, 2009 Author Report Posted January 25, 2009 Re: hotel near EWR for the night before departure .Dahammer said "so I bid in Elizabeth and won the Country Inn and Suites." . What was your winning bid ?FYI all - I called the Holiday Inn reservation line and had it confirmed that the free airport shuttle is 24 hours.Tks' Momma Joe
dahammer Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 here is a link to my Country Inn and Suites winning bid. Your dates are in May when occupancy levels are higher. You can request a room with two queens, but there is no guarantee, are you willing to risk getting a room with one king? Also, since this property is rated 2.5*, there is a slight possibility that you could be upgraded to the 3* Courtyard or Residence Inn which are 100 yards away from the Country Inn.

thereuare Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The 3* property has not yet been identified and the amenities are common enough that i don't think we'll be able to offer much insight at this time. The 2* has not yet been reported either, but based upon the amenities and Tripadvisor information, this appears to be a match for the Howard Johnson and that would be our best guess for this one. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. I wouldn't stay at the HoJo's, the reviews are not good.
Momma Joe Posted January 30, 2009 Author Report Posted January 30, 2009 Is the Residence Inn by Marriott - Newark/Elizabeth a hotel a HOTWIRE property? It has a complimentary brkfast & airport shuttle .The Country Inn & Suites by Carlson also looks favorable. Please advise if you recommend either of the above .Should I go through HOTWIRE or PRICELINE for the above ? (via your links of course :) Thanks Momma Joe
thereuare Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 It's generally not a good idea to find the hotel you want and then to try to figure out how 'make' it appear via HOTWIRE because it just can't be done. With PRICELINE there is no way to target a hotel and you need to be prepared to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. (and you also have the double vs. quad occupancy issue with PRICELINE)With the above noted you can see the hotels reported in each zone in the respective Priceline Hotel List and Hotwire Hotel List. Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your purchases. dahammer Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Our Flight leaves Newark at 6 amyour plane will be pulling away from the gate when these hotels begin complimentary breakfast service
Momma Joe Posted January 30, 2009 Author Report Posted January 30, 2009 your plane will be pulling away from the gate when these hotels begin complimentary breakfast serviceI added that info to help ID the hotel.I know it's of no value to us :-(I was thinking we could hit the Jersey Outlet Mall on our last day , and stay at a hotel near there, which has an airport shuttle. rickb Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I am looking inot hotels in the newark area on hotwire. I was following your post and then it stopped. did you book?
Momma Joe Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 My bad - Sorry , we did not book thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for the one night in Newark. I eventually booked directly with a hotel in the EWR area. I wanted the cancellation option should just in case our plans changed, as PRICELINE and HOTWIRE don't provide that option.Good luck and have a fun trip. Momma Joe
