hi, first post. great site!! i have a few L.A. and general questions.

is westlake village, thousand oaks etc. considered L.A. or other california on this forum? (i was able to find the area on priceline)

if i want to book 7 days, am i better to split it up into much smaller pieces??

is there any way to find out the daily parking charge before booking? i understand about all the anonymity being the basis for the low prices, but i'd say parking fee is part of the price in a real world sense.

thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the site. :)

Hopefully someone more familiar with the area will respond to the area questions.

Otherwise, splitting your stay depends on the date/s. If it's a slow period, splitting your stay is not necessary. If it's a busier time, splitting your week stay (maybe 4 days at one, 3 at another or vice versa) is an option to consider.

Unfortunately, parking cost cannot be found prior to booking, since with PRICELINE you cannot know in advance which hotel you're getting. With HOTWIRE, you can make an educated guess (not guaranteed - an educated guess) as to which hotel is showing, and that might help.

What are your dates of travel?

can't remember my exact dates, but it's just after president's day and conflicts with l.a. golf open and academy awards. luckily L.A. is a large place. looking at airport, downtown and then north of the city (although i didn't see anything in either L.A. or other california for westlake village etc. even though i realize that the hyatt westlake village, for example, is part of priceline)

i presume on holidays etc. that there is less availability on priceline. that's just obvious to me.

i really want to get an outdoor swimming pool, which i assume alot of places have. is it a good strategy to try to grab a hotel room for one night, find out what place it is and then if you like the description to try to re-bid for more nights (rebidding or waiting 24 hours.... although if it's different night, i wouldn't have to wait for 24 hours???) ???

ok, it looks like thousand oaks etc. is in other california forum.

thanks again!!

If an outdoor pool is important I'd favor HOTWIRE over PRICELINE. Most LA hotels have a pool but it's not always outdoors. On HOTWIRE you can often identify hotels in advance, then verify whether the pool is indoor or outdoor before you buy.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with LA but some days in February the high temps might only reach the 60's. If you get an outdoor pool you might wish it was indoors.

Once you settle your dates let us know if you want more assistance.

seemed a little expensive relative to what i've seen other people get here. but needed to book early and fast and it's american holiday/L.A. Open/Academy Awards all around that time.

anyway, thank you very much. i really appreciate this site.

EDIT: want to do a couple more reservations. i had a couple of questions. 1) as long as i stay in PRICELINE.com from your link, i don't have to do each hotel reservation from your link itself to get you guys credit??; 2) it's easy rebidding when you want very cheap area like LAX (i.e. keep adding more expensive areas that will never be accepted). but any tips for rebidding when you want most expensive area (beverly hills)??

Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing your results with the board.

Your original topic title only indicated that you received a 4* Westin so we guessed and added the "Downtown" zone and that the property is the Westin Bonaventure... is this correct?

Please use our PRICELINE link to begin each bidding cycle... so if you click our link and are rejected on your first bid, you can just add zones from there in order to keep bidding and not return to BetterBidding. However, once you win a hotel, if you intend to continue bidding for a new property, please click our link again to ensure that we get proper credit. Also, any links in a PRICELINE email will overwrite our referal, so please be sure to not click any links in their emails if/when you receive them, instead return here and use our link to access PRICELINE

it's easy rebidding when you want very cheap area like LAX (i.e. keep adding more expensive areas that will never be accepted)
Adding zones that you "know" won't accept a low offer is risky, as we have seen many instances of users getting surprised at just how low of a bid a hotel in a nearby zone is willing to accept. The only truly safe method of re-bidding is the on described in the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread where the zone you're adding has no hotels at the star level or higher that you have chosen.

Enjoy your stay.

i submitted a response. it's westin LAX, not downtown. probably my mistake.

thanks for the clarification on the rebidding..... i was actually thinking adding zones where you're very unlikely to get hit AND that are acceptable if that happened. i think i knew to be somewhat careful of a distant zone.
