frank664 Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 I have booked a hotel through HOTWIRE but never PRICELINE. What would be my best strategy for getting a 4* or better hotel in a good location on July 4 and 5 in San Francisco? Also is there any problems booking through priceline being that I am from Canada? Would it be better to try this far in advance or would it be better to try closer to the date? And if a 3 or 3.5* is going to get me signigicant savings and a nice hotel I would be fine with that as well. Thanks for any helpJustin
frank664 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 Welcome to the site.Budget? Not really sure yet. Guess depends on what i can get but would like to keep it under 120 if possible. Thanks
Colfax Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 It's not too soon to bid for July if your travel dates are firm. Priceline reservations are nonchangeable and nonrefundable. I haven't heard about difficulties booking from Canada recently. Are you looking for a room in Downtown SF? There are four Downtown zones with 4* hotels. Did you want a particular area of Downtown or all four zones are acceptable?People have different standards of what a "nice hotel" is and not knowing you I don't want to guess whether you'd be happy at a 3.5* or 3* or not. I'd suggest taking a little time to read reviews of some of the 3* and 3.5* hotels mentioned in the Hotel List so you can decide if those are viable options for you. I don't think you need to worry about winning a dump or a dangerous hotel bidding 3*. I don't think I'd bid lower than 3* though. With six months to go before your trip I'd just bid as high as $100 or so for a 4* now or $75 for a 3.5* or 3*. More hotels will be offering rooms as your dates get closer. If you'll let us know your zone and quality level preferences someone can offer a more detailed bidding strategy. Please use this PRICELINE link when you bid.
austin_res Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 A couple options for those dates from HOTWIRE:4* on Union Square East at 116 which appears to be Westin St. Francis3* on Union Square East at 103 which appears to be Pickwick Hotel
frank664 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 I decided not to use HOTWIRE or PRICELINE. Found a good deal on travelzoo.
thereuare Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Thanks for closing this thread and glad you found something which worked well for your needs. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
