idontdodecaf Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 I've been booking through priceline for YEARS now, and this is the first time I have been absolutely stuck :)Area: Pittsburgh - Monroeville/Forrest Hills (Area is non-negotiable... if I don't win through priceline, I'll have to book rack rate for this specific area - but would rather not have to.)Level:3* or 2.5*Dates: Check-in: Can be either 5/17, 5/18 or 5/19Check-out: Must be 5/24/09Over the past week and a half, I've bid in amounts of 37, 39, 41, 44, 47, 49, 52, 55, 59, 62 and 66 with NO accepted bids. I've varied the check in dates, as well as star levels and I am completely stuck.Any advice? I can wait until around mid-march to book this hotel, however I would love to get it done sooner. I'm a pretty patient person, but it's wearing thin =(Thanks in advance!!
steelerchad Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 my guess is it's just too early. That's along way off.
dahammer Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 what are the conventional rates for your dates of travel? Is it possible that College graduations are affecting hotel occupancy?
idontdodecaf Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 what are the conventional rates for your dates of travel? Is it possible that College graduations are affecting hotel occupancy?College graduation will be over, but it is memorial day weekend (however, there are no major events going on, and western PA isn't much of a "hot spot" for vacations...) =(As far as it being a long ways off... its only 4 months away and approaching close. The rack rates are from around 99-119. Just aggravating that the recent bids (less than 2 months ago) are 35-45.00 for dates at the end of April =(Thanks for the help guys, It's giving me a little bit of relief that I didn't just oversight something obvious.
drizz1129 Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Just a heads up:CMU graduation is Sunday May 17th - Chatham College commencement is Saturday May 23This week is usually a particularly busy week in Pittsburgh. I would wait a little while, at least a few days or so, for hotels to recover from the holidays before completely giving up. There are also 3 options on hotwire available for your dates starting with a 2* at $54 and a 2.5* at $72 a night.

But that would explain why University Center hotels are all booked for that weekend. But thanks for the heads up!
drizz1129 Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 I am a CMU student, and the information they send out to parents has the University area hotels listed first, and then they send everyone out to Monroeville. Not exactly sure why, as you said its not exactly next door to the campus, but I guess they figure it's the next best option. Usually the university area is either way too expensive or already booked. Still, you should be able to find some sort of deal in Monroeville, as everyone should be cleared out by the 18th.
