Beachhotel Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 First time using Hotwire or Priceline. looking at a 3* Ft Lauderdale Beach Area hotel for $95 on hotwire(last few days its been 90, 92 and 95 depending on the day). Trying to figure out what hotel this could be, I need to book two rooms Feb 20th - 24th. My friend that is going is very picky so I have to do more research. Can anyone help. Near BeachProperty is located within easy walking distance of a beach.Fitness CenterGuests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply.Pool(s)Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal.Restaurant(s)Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary.Business CenterGuests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply.High-speed Internet AccessGuestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Please help Thanks I've tried Priceline and bid all the way up to $160 a night for a 4 star hotel in Ft lauderdale Beach area. Considered trying 3 star and bidding at $75 and going up, but some 3 stars in the area have small pool and I'm concerned what I may end up with. Any advice or hotels guesses??
AaronJB Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Welcome to the site :)This hotel would appear to be a match for the Sheraton Yankee Clipper or Sheraton Yankee Trader, based on the site's list of reported FL HOTWIRE wins: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=67&I really would not recommend going any higher in terms of bidding for a 4*. The Renaissance Ft Lauderdale is $199 for these dates on Orbitz; use coupon code FABSAVE10 for 10% off = $180 - not all that much higher than what you've bid up to.Are the potential results for the HOTWIRE listing at all appealing? Please use the site's links for PRICELINE, HOTWIRE or Orbitz.com to start your purchases. Thank you.
Beachhotel Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 Yes, the 90 a night sounds good. I'm just trying to convince my friend to do this. They are a bit skeptical still. If I book my room now and get Yankee clipper. What are the odds of them getting the same hotel if they do it on there own a few minutes later on hotwire, If they select the same hotel description? Is there usually only one hotel that makes that specific offer or is there multiple 3 star hotels that could be under this same posting?
Colfax Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 It's not uncommon for two hotels in the same zone to have identical icons. There are even some zones (not in FLL) where three hotels have the same icons.Even though you and your friend would probably get the same hotel if you purchase identical icons separately, it's definitely not guraranteed. You're only guaranteed the same hotel if you purchase two rooms in a single reservation. If you're concerned about which hotel you'll get you could purchase two rooms for just one night. Then when you see what you got you could purchase two rooms together for the other three nights. The issue with that plan is that you might get a different hotel for the last three nights and you'd have to switch hotels. But you'd be switching with your friends. Also the Hotwire fees are a little higher for separate one-night and three-night stays than for four nights purchased in one transaction. It's not a significant amount, a few bucks difference, but I thought I'd mention it.Also if you do an "identity check" purchase for one night, make sure before you purchase that the same icons are available for the other three nights.
Beachhotel Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 Thanks for the help! My friend is reading some bad reviews on the Yankee Clipper. May have to continue search for 4 star. I see the Hollywood Beach 4 star. From reading other posts on here it would appear that it is Crown Plaza. That would be nice!! I am hoping to see it below 150 a night. I see stories of people who got it for 90 a night on priceline. However, when you include Hollywood area on priceline it goes too far in land. I want to be able to walk to the beach. When you search hotwire in January the same described 4 star hotel in Hollywood Beach is 133 a night. My trip is in February and it shows at 182 a night. I need 4 nights and that adds up quick(I'm cheap). So I guess I will wait and keep my eyes open for a deal on a 4 star walking distance to the beach(preferably on the beach) under $150. Maybe I'm asking too much, trying to keep everyone happy on the trip, I like the Yankee Clipper location but the other couple coming with us needs fancier stuff, no reviews about old carpet or musty smelling stuff like that. Let me know if anyone has any good deals out there in Ft Lauderdale Beach or Hollywood Beach areas. Thanks!!
Beachhotel Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 I booked first three nights of my trip on Hotwire. Feb 18 -21st. Hollywood Beach hotel 4 star for $162 a night. Its the Westin Diplomat!! Very nice place, close to beach!! It was not listed past Saturday the 21st. So we are working on the next three nights but this place looks real nice for the price. $400 a night on other websites. Thanks for the help! Will probably end up at Crown Plaza the next three nights. Both are nice hotels!
