Colfax Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 Hotwire doesn't include TripAdvisor stats for this hotel and Frankfurt isn't a destination in Hotwire Vacation Packages. Those are the two main clues we use to identify Hotwire hotels, so there's not much to go on.Sorry I can't be of more help with this one, elli. Maybe someone else has an idea.If you go for it anyhow please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what this hotel turns out to be.
Rhine-and-Roses Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 I agree- it's hard to say what this is- there are so many hotels in that area. Some of them really not centrally located, either. There are fairly consistent wins on Priceline for Moevenpick at $45. It is by the fairgrounds, reasonably located, clean. There are also wins at the Marriott and the Intercontinental, although the wins on the latter are higher. Good luck.
elli Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 I booked this hotel and I am upset.its the Golden Tulip in Offenbach and is not 5 miles from the airport its 15 miles from the airport.I called the hotel and they said that they this problem is already known and that they already told hotwire about that problem.I don't think that it is ok .I booked it for my parents in law- they will visit us and for them a trip with the taxi through the morning rush will be very strenous. You cannot sell apples and say these are oranges.Thats fraud in my eyes.Best regards and thank you for your help.Elli
elli Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 Dear Thank you for contacting us regarding your Golden Tulip Frankfurt Offenbach booking, Hotwire Itinerary Number I recognize the hotel is 20 miles away from the airport without shuttle service. I regret the inconvenience this caused you. When booking a hotel on Hotwire, we provide maps showing the area where your hotel can be located. Since the exact location of the hotel remainsanonymous until after your booking is complete, we are unable to guarantee where within our area map your hotel will be located, the distance we provided on our Web site is an estimated straight line distance from the center of the area. Please understand during your search we show the amenities offered by each hotel on the Search Results page. This allows you to choose the hotel with the amenities to best meet your needs - e.g., pool, kitchen, or access to the beach. You can view our amenities guide by clicking on the link below or copying and pasting it into your browser. In an effort to help us understand what information was not sufficientlyclear to you when making your reservation, please contact us at 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473) to provide us with full details.Thank you for choosing Hotwire.Sincerely,Agatha CHotwire Customer Carewww.hotwire.com
Colfax Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Elli, Thanks for getting back to us with the name of the hotel. We'll add Golden Tulip to the Hotel List. It's probably no consolation to you but this will at least save others from being inconvenienced by a distant "mystery hotel" as your in-laws have been. A couple general comments that I hope will help in your future bidding:1) You have to look at the Hotwire map. Don't assume anything from the zone name. Zones that have "Airport" in their name don't necessarily offer airport area hotels only. In this case the zone's name is "Frankfurt South-Frankfurt Airport", and the zone is MUCH larger than just the Airport area. If the scale on Hotwire's Frankfurt zone map is correct the South-FRA zone is about 72 square miles (12 miles x 6 miles) and you could have won a hotel anywhere in that large area.2) You aren't guaranteed a hotel with an airport shuttle, even in a zone with "Airport" in its name, unless that hotel displays a shuttle icon.3) When Hotwire says "3.5 miles from the Airport" they're not talking about the specific hotel you chose being 3.5 miles from the airport. They mean the center of the zone is 3.5 miles from the airport. If you go back and look at the Frankfurt page you'll see right under "3.5 miles to FRA" it says "Distances are measured from the center of the area", not "Distances are measured from the hotel".For your dates Hotwire offers four hotels in South-FRA zone, and all four are tagged "3.5 miles from FRA". It's unlikely four different hotels would all be exactly 3.5 miles from the airport. It's the center of the zone that's 3.5 miles from FRA, not any particular hotel. I agree with you Hotwire's language is misleading here. If Hotwire doesn't want to disclose how far the actual hotel is from the airport I don't think they should include any distance quotations at all. Nobody cares how far the center of the zone is from the airport. They only want to know how far their own hotel is. In this case no information would be better than a little information, which is misleading. Thanks for the post. I can understand your sense of disappointment.
elli Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 Thanks for your support.I want to let you know, that the hotel was rebooked.I called the customerservice and this guy was very nice and helpfull.I told him that the Golden Tulip is really a nice hotel when wants to stay in fFrankfurt and like to discover the beautifull downtown Frankfurt. But this hotel is nothing when you have to fly out. They rebooked the hotel and now I got HOTEL POST (www.airporthotel-post.de)with airportshuttle,10 min drive to the airport, breakfast for 93 dollars.(3 stars)My phonecall was more sucessfull than the emails.I used your link the first time,I don't know what they used, sorry. But again this forum is very helpfullElli
Colfax Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 I'm glad to hear you had better luck with a different customer service agent and now your in-laws have a hotel with a shuttle.A happy ending. :) Thanks for using the HOTWIRE link.
