Hotwire Hotel: 2.5* NYC (Downtown-SoHo-Financial) East Houston Hotel

I just saw an obscenely good deal for a 2-star suite-apartment-condo on the East Side on Hotwire and the only thing that fits that mold in the hotel list here is the Best Western Hospitality House on E 49th. $69/night is an awesome deal and the reviews are more good than bad, but I wanted to check with the experts here that if I picked that price, the Hospitality House is what I'd get.

The potential for a Woogo condo scares me, but a Best Western like this doesn't in the least.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Please include the full list of amenities and we'll have a look.

Two nights, January 8th & 9th...says condo, suite, studio, smoke-free, kitchenette, A/C, coin laundry, 24 hour front desk...

Thanks so much

The Best Western is a hotel and not a condo and has been reported as a 2.5* not a 2*, so I would rule that one out as a possibility. It'll take a little while to narrow down some options as there are many choices in the area but that answers your first question.

Is there a specific reason you are looking for a 2*? Many 2* hotels in New York can be very shady and not nice at all (I know from experience), although I'm not sure if that relates to the condo's though.

What is your maximum budget?

I have a cancellable room at the Herald Square Hotel, so basically I've been playing around with Priceline and Hotwire to see if I can do better. The Herald Square is a queen room that I basically got for half-price ($95 vs $179...timing is everything), so if I can't find something below $95, I'll stick with what I have. In past years I've gotten rooms through Priceline in January for as low as $75.

The $69 just struck my interest but I was also suspicious enough to want to question it.

Thanks for your help.

I think there's a chance this could be a Woogo (although those haven't shown up in a while, it seems like), or other - similar (one of those AKA properties?) - property. $69 isn't bad for anything in New York City, but you definitely are still taking a risk.

If you do decide to roll the dice on this listing, please use our HOTWIRE link and let us know what the result is, so we can add the hotel to the site's list.

A risk I'm not sure I'm ready to take. I prefer staying on the west side because it's closer to most of the places I go, so it was taking me out of the way anyway. But that price was too good to not be curious about.

I had stayed at the Herald Square three years ago, it was very basic, not quite a 2*, and my alternatives were very limited. If it were me, I would spend another $30 or so on a PRICELINE bid for better accomodations. However, the Herald Square is right in the heart of Korea-town and Korean Barbeque would sound pretty good after a cold day in the city. I would agree with AaronJB about the 2* HOTWIRE deal possibly being a WooGoo property and there are many poor reviews for this type of accomodation.

Woogo has an awful reputation so I'll steer clear.

I'm pretty much a regular at the Herald Square. I know it's bare bones, but all I really need is a bed and a clean bathroom and it fits the bill nicely there. I still plan on trying Priceline as the time gets closer but will be perfectly happy with the Herald Square if nothing better comes along. I'm also a big fan of the Red Roof Inn around the block, but their prices have gone up.

you may want to check the LaQuinta as well :)

A very belated follow-up....I ended up trying Priceline and got the East Houston Hotel for $83 a night.

Sorry for not following up back then.
