roptinator Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Hi.I can see that some people have won a 3* in lax for 45. When I am bidding I can't win even when bidding a little higher. I need a room from January 24. to Januray 25. Is it my date that is the problem, or can somebody tell me what's wrong??-Thanks
slick_gd Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Different dates will have different rates and can be based on a number of factors and changes all the time. It might not be that you are doing anything wrong, it's just the way it is sometimes. What was your maximum bid so far and what would be your absolute maximum?
Colfax Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Hotwire has a 4* at LAX for $69. Priceline usually beats Hotwire in this zone. Somewhere in the $50-60 range ought to be enough. How high have you already bid for a 4*?Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links.
roptinator Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 My highest bid so far is $48 for a 3*. I originally started bidding on 2* but when I saw it whas possible to get a 3* for about $50 I'de rather go for that. But you think I should in the 50. to win a 3*?-thank.
Colfax Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I do NOT recommend bidding 2* in the LAX zone, period. For a few dollars more you can get a much better 3* or higher. You've bid up to $48 for a 3* now. I think you're probably within a few dollars of a win. When your 24-hour lockout is over I suggest trying these three bids:$50/4*$50/3.5*$50/3*If those don't work let us know.Don't forget to start with this PRICELINE link. Thanks!

Colfax Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 Will you be parking a car, so that parking rates are a consideration?Do you require a hotel with an airport shuttle?
roptinator Posted December 26, 2008 Author Report Posted December 26, 2008 I will not be parking a car. I'm coming from Denmark and are just in need of a place to stay before taking the plane to Mammoth the 25.
Colfax Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 I was going to suggest bidding the Culver City zone, which is immediately next to LAX zone, and sometimes costs less. But I just found out the new Courtyard in Culver City doesn't have an airport shuttle, which surprises me. Before the Courtyard opened you were guaranteed a shuttle when bidding 2.5* or higher in Culver City. So forget about Culver City. You've been rejected to $50 for 3*. Hotwire still has a 4* at $69.You can either bid higher than $50 or go down to a 2.5* in LAX. All the reported 2.5* in LAX zone have a free airport shuttle. Some of the 2* do not. One 2.5* that comes up (the Hacienda) gets mostly negative reviews. You can read the reviews at TripAdvisor and decide if that hotel will work for you. If you still want to go for the 2.5* I suggest $40. Then add your one free rebid, Lawndale, and bid $45.Otherwise try $55/4*, $55/3.5*, $55/3*.We appreciate if you'll keep starting your bids through this PRICELINE link.
roptinator Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 I tried to bid $55 for a 3,5* and won Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Airport. Thank you guys for all your help
