anomaly Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 This was my first time using HOTWIRE or this site and I screwed up a little. Based on a previous post I thought I would be getting a room at the Whitcomb, but I didn't pay close enough attention to the amenities and now I have a room at the Holiday Inn on 8th which I am not very excited about, plus is undergoing construction. Live and learn.Amenities:Laundrybussiness centerfitness centerrestauranthigh speed internet
thereuare Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Sorry to hear that you didn't receive the hotel you were hoping for. As you now know, sometimes the difference in amenities between one hotel and other can be very slight and you need to be careful that the amenities match exactly. Always feel free to confirm with the board what you think you'll be receiving, or ask for help, as often two heads is better than one, and there's no harm in having somebody take a second look.Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. Colfax Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Holiday Inn is almost next door to Whitcomb. If you've got time I recommend taking a look at the Whitcomb lobby. The Whitcomb is almost 100 years old and for a budget hotel the lobby is pretty grand with dark wood, chandaliers, marble columns. There's a neat and free little museum of SF history on the Whitcomb's mezzanine level. The Whitcomb was temporarily San Francisco's City Hall after the real City Hall burnt in the Great Earthquake, and the city jail was in the hotel's basement!
anomaly Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 Thanks for the info Colfax. Though it is just making me sadder that I'm checking into a Holiday Inn under construction.
Colfax Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Hey, I didn't mean to make you sad. It's just a one night stay. You can try Whitcomb next time.I haven't stayed at that Holiday Inn in years and maybe it's improved. That they're renovating is a good sign. Please let us know how it goes. The hotel price was cut off in your original post. Please let us know the price and we'll add it to the subject line.
anomaly Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 Sorry about that! It's $58 original price, which ended up being around $75 with taxes and such.I actually got a fairly nice room, somehow they upgraded me I guess. King bed, and a sofa. I'd still rather be at the Whitcomb, but its fine.
