rtaite Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 First of all, let me state my goal here: cheapest major brand hotel near an NYC airport. It's hard to get below $70 anywhere in NY without staying in a hostel or a dump. Here is my strategy:1) Go to HOTWIRE.com. Find the lowest priced hotel in the area where you want to stay. Use that as an upper limit on what you bid on PRICELINE. After all, if you can't get it on Priceline, you can always take the Hotwire price.2) Go to PRICELINE.com. Start with the hotels near the NYC airports. Bid below the upper limits. In my case, I start with 2.5 stars.3) Expand the search to other areas.4) Lower the stars. In this case, 2 was a sweet spot. The upper limit for me was $69 and 2.5 stars on Hotwire in the NYC/Flushing area.I picked JFK and LGA at $60 and 2.5 stars. No luck.Expanded to include Flushing and 2.5 stars at $63. No luck.Lowered to 2 stars at $63. Got a hit.Listen, Fairfield may not be the Hilton, but $63 near the airport in NYC from a Marriott brand is not too bad.Ralph
