Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Hello Everyone,I'm looking to book a room in Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 13th. The company has booked rooms for us at Pier 66, but I'm staying an extra night, and can't afford the rate. I'm looking at using Priceline, and have a max of around $100.00. Can I get a 4* for that? Please help me with a bid strategy. Thank you in advance.Jeremy
slick_gd Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Is there any particular zone you want to stay in?Based on what has been reported to the board getting a 4* in the Downtown or Beach zones is not very likely. The lowest reported win I have seen is about $110. If you dropped down to a 3* your chances would improve significantly, and maybe even with a 3.5*.If you wanted to stay in the West-Plantation zone I would say that there is a very good chance you would get one for less than $100.Let us know what you want to do and we can advise a strategy.
Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I would like to stay as close to the Airport or Pier 66 as possible.
Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I would consider a 3* and a 3.5* also. How much do you think it would take to get a 3*, 3.5*, or 4* on average? Should I start bidding ASAP? Thanks for your help.I would like to stay in these "sections" in order from best to worst:5,2,4,3. I hope that makes sense, but I'm just choosing those due to the proximity of the airport. I think the hotel we are already booked at is in 5, Pier 66.Thank you,Jeremy
thereuare Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! What are the actual zone names? PRICELINE could sub-divide a zone, or add/remove a zone, at which point all the numbers you posted above would no longer be the actual zones you really want.Is price or zone more important? In other words, would you prefer a higher priced hotel in your first zone choice or a lower priced hotel in your second or third zone choice? Also, did you want to bid up to your limit for a 4* hotel before trying for a 3.5*, and so-on and so-on.I think you do have a chance at a 4* for $100 (assuming that is bid price and not 'all-in') although it's hardly a sure thing.Let us know your thoughts on how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise further. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 It looks like 4* is probably out of range since i would like to spend 100.00 out the door. How about we start with the 3.5*. I don't really guess zone is a huge factor. I just want to be in the nicest hotel I can be in for my price range and still be close to the Airport. Zone names: (In order of preference)Fort Lauderdale Beach AreaDowntown Fort LauderdaleFort Lauderdale Airport (FLL)Fort Lauderdale - Airport NorthThanks again for the help.
thereuare Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Zone names: (In order of preference)So do you want to bid up to your limit for the first desired zone, then if rejected try in the next zone, and so-on... OR are you looking for the least expensive 3.5* or better hotel in any of the zones above up to your limit?Let us know the above, as well as your maximum bid before taxes and fees, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I would say your last statement is the direction I want to go. The nicest hotel I can get in any of those zones up to my limit. $100 out the door.
thereuare Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 One more question then... do you want to try first for a 4* or start seeking a 3.5*?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Well i would love to stay at a 4*, but if it's very unlikely i say we shoot for the 3.5*.
thereuare Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 There are no 3.5* properties in the Airport North zone so we won't include that in your bidding. At the 3.5* level you have four re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Start with our link to PRICELINESelect 3.5* Beach...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $65, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Downtown...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $65, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Airport...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $65, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Beach and Downtown...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Beach and Airport...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Beach and Downtown and Airport...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.EDIT: just realized you wanted $100 'all-in'... what is your maximum bid amount and we'll edit accordingly Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Golfwins Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I went through the first three bids, and was starting the Downtown one, and it said:"We were not able to process this request since our records indicate you have already made a request for this same trip. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number"Do I have to wait? Thanks
thereuare Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 You probably didn't use your re-bid zones correctly...What did you use for re-bid zone1 and re-bid zone2 in your first round of bidding? Golfwins Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 Your probably right. I placed my first bid for $55 Beach 3.5*......It was declined so I added the Downtown Zone and bid $60, got declined so I added the Second Zone Airport and bid $65. That was declined so I closed my browser and tried to start again, but when i tried to bid with Downtown, $55, 3.5* it was i couldn't with the message I pasted earlier. Did I misunderstand the directions? Thanks,Jeremy
thereuare Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Yes, you misunderstood.A re-bid zones is not a zone that you actually want to win, but one which only contains hotels with star levels lower than the star level you have selected. Did you read the first post of Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? It's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Golfwins Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 Okay so I went through basically the whole list. I finally won with a $90 bid. They did upgrade me to a 4* so that was nice. Golfwins Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 Sure, it's the Crown Plaza at Sawgrass Mills. I'm not sure how nice it is, but it looks pretty nice.
thereuare Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 They did upgrade me to a 4* so that was nice.I believe the Crowne Plaza Sawgrass is only rated 3*, and is in the (West Ft. Lauderdale - Plantation) zone, which it doesn't appear that you had included in your bidding. Can you list the address of the hotel you received, perhaps it's the Crowne Plaza in Hollywood (which is rated 4 stars) at:4000 S Ocean DrHollywood, FL 33019 Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Golfwins Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 It is the Crown Plaza on Ocean Drive. haha, I've been looking at the sawgrass hotel and thinking, well i guess i saved 20 or 30 bucks. In reality, i think i did pretty well.
thereuare Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Thanks for confirming the location... and glad you didn't show up at the wrong hotel :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
