Colfax Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I bid this for a Priceline-shy relative. My mandate was to find "something in Midtown under $250". MTW, CPS, and TS-TD were equally acceptable. MTE was a second choice. Winning was much easier than I anticipated and my relative is delighted with the outcome.I started at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins where I saw that member sjs5572 already won the Marriott Marquis for the same dates at $195 after $170 was rejected. I wanted to replicate that deal if possible, maybe even shave a little off the $195.I started at $160 and went up in $5 increments. At $170 I got a $25 counteroffer. $175 was accepted.Marriott's Best Available rate for these dates is $499, or $424 prepaid. Needless to say my relative is delighted.Bids were placed through the BetterBidding PRICELINE link. Thanks to sjs5572 for lighting the path!

Colfax Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 When the price in my topic line has three digits that's a tipoff I'm bidding for someone else. I haven't been to NYC in over 20 years. I'm still waiting for PRICELINE to offer bidding on half rooms in Manhattan.

Colfax Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 My relatives report their request for a two bed room was granted without upgrade fee. Room was on 21st floor. They were very pleased with the hotel, the room, the service, and the price.
