canadianmom2three Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Trying for a 4* near the airport - bid up to $90 before I ran out of rebids, then went down to 3.5*, bid up to $70 before running out of rebids, now I'm down to a 3* and bid up to 60 before running out.....none of these were accepted! We can usually get a 3* for $35!!! (Yes I used the link, and sorry for being grouchy before. I really do like the site ;-)Checked out HOTWIRE (and would have used the link EXCEPT) of course the 3* for $59 I waffled on last nite cause I wanted 4*is all gone, and all that's left in the airport area is 2* or 2.5* blech. Any suggestions, we leave tomorrow, so I don't even have any rebids left on PRICELINE unless I want to bid on a 2.5 or 2* which I don't. GRRRR
canadianmom2three Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 Lesson learned - always check your zones! Was bidding on the airport zone, looking for a 2.5 star, since all my bids for higher * levels were rejected (see previous post). Did some bidding last night and made a little list of all the zones that had hotels LESS than 3*, which was only 2 zones, scarborough and TEast, didn't get anything though, and stopped bidding at 3*. Set down to rebid tonight using the same cheat list, but after all my higher * levels were rejected, got desperate and lowered my standard to 2.5*. By this point, since we leave in the a.m., but I was in a rush, and didn't notice that tonight, Scarborough was lumped in with pickering to make a Scarborough/Pickering Zone. I swear that combined zone was not there last night, and I didn't even notice it until my bidding for a 2.5 star in the airport zone, using TEast and Scarborough for instant rebids won me the Delta Toronto EAST. It couldn't be farther from the airport, which is where we are attending a conference. Anyone ever had the zones change like that, or am I dreaming? And why didn't I win way back when I was bidding $70 for the airport 3.5* and using the TEast and Scarborough/Pickering as my instant rebids. Why would they wait till I lowered my bidding level tl 2.5*, bid less, then upgrade me. Did they change the Scarborough zone to Scarborough/Pickering right when I lowered my bidding level to 2.5* do you think? Anyway, baaaaadddd mistake, but lesson learned. Anyway, the stupid win was $50 for Scarborough/Pickering, and it was as I said, the Delta Toronto East, and using the PRICELINE link at the top of this site. I was bidding on a 2.5 star, but thankfully they upgraded me to the 3.5* because the only insult worse than winning a hotel in a zone so far from what I wanted, would be winning a crappy 2.5* way out there.

canadianmom2three Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 Is this just for a one nite stay of 10/21?Yup, which has now officially ended in disaster.....see the other postUnless there is a brilliant way to fix things, we are attending a conference at the corner of 27&427, but staying at the lovely Delta Toronto EAST. :) insert icon of me hitting myself in the head for dumb mistake made in a rush.....
thereuare Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Sorry to hear this didn't work out as you expected.I'm pretty certain that this zone was named "(Scarborough-Pickering)" yesterday although the boundaries may have changed (so that there is now a 3.5* in this zone no longer making it a re-bid zone or a hotel may have been added). While this doesn't work out well for your needs, hopefully you have make it work for $50, and fortunately only for a one nite stay... i've seen a few errors for 4 or 5 nite stays which is really bad, but re-emphasizes the need to doublecheck your re-bid zones before every bidding cycle.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Hope youre stay goes better than expected. canadianmom2three Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 Thanks, it all worked out fine. Even though it was almost an hour drive with traffic, it did take us past IKEA, which was a bonus! The hotel was actually very nice - very nice lobby and restaurant, pool with waterslide, big hottub...very clean common areas. The staff kindly upgraded us to a king room, which was very lovely, clean and spacious. It was great value for the $$ (when I enquired at check in, the walk up rate for the room we got was $199.99). We ordered in room service, which was suprisingly reasonably priced and VERY FAST and tasty. So all in all, it worked out OK, but for sure next time I will be paying VERY close attention to my zones!!
