Hello, we are going out to New Orleans for 4 nights 10/30 thru 11/3. I used Bookit.com's mystery 4* feature and was a little bit dissapointed after reading reviews and prices paid for Intercontinental. It seems to be available through Hotwire and Priceline for much less (1/2!) than the $99/night. My reservation is fully refundable so I am going to cancel and book something through the links on this site. What should I bid on? I am new to these sites... We are young and want to be close to everything- I am afraid of ending up far. I also have read alot that Intercontinental is better for business travel and is one of the most distant in this area from food, bars, etc. I want something nice and safe, but the $50ish a night posts I see people getting on here are very appealing! Can you suggest anything?

This site is such a great idea! It appears personaly kept as I've gone through and read posts/responses. I'm so glad I found it and have made a small donation to say thanks for everything you do!

Few comments regarding PRICELINE and HOTWIRE. With each you can end up anywhere in the zone that you select. If taking an educated guess as to the hotel you will receive than HOTWIRE is often a better option as you can try to figure out the hotel before your purchase based upon the amenities shown; however, PRICELINE is often a little cheaper than PRICELINE, but you don't have the ability to take a guess as to what you will receive before your purchase... so that's the trade-off.

I don't think the Inter-Continental is too far (imo)... it's not in the Quarter but it's certainly walkable (just always be aware of your surroundings when walking in any large city, especially at nite) If you're looking for something different.. what appears to be the Le Pavillon is available for $79/nite and gets great reviews. As well, what might be the Hilton St Charles is available for $59/nite.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Those both sound good to me. As far as Intercontinental... Im going to guess these other 2 locations (le pavillion and hilton) come higher recommended?

Which do you think is a better value/location (or a surer bet on the actual hotel I will get)?

Thanks!

Are any of them Country Inn and Suites, you think? I've read almost 100% positive reviews on this place and it looks closer than most.

No, i don't think either of these are the Country Inn and Suites which would be a lower star rated hotel than either the Le Pavillon or the Hilton.

I feel very confident regarding the Le Pavillon since the Tripadvisor information shown by HOTWIRE (4.5/5.0 with 400+ reviews) matches the Tripadvisor Information directly at the TA website.

I feel "good" about the Hilton guess too, but if i had to make a bet on either being correct i would choose the Le Pavillon since, even if the guess was wrong (which i dont' think it is), you'd still be getting a hotel with a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating (assuming this information is shown on the HOTWIRE hotel you actually purchase) so i would buy without being too concerned with the quality of the hotel purchased.

I haven't stayed at Le Pavillion, but of the other two, I think the Intercontinental is a nicer hotel than the Hilton. Both are nice, but the Hilton is just a bit too big for my tastes.

The Intercontinental is actually a bit closer to Bourbon St than the Hilton; the Hilton is closer to the River and to the casino. But the hotels are only 4 blocks from each other, so we're not talking a huge difference here.

Hey Swag, im a big fan of your swagland website! The hilton they are referring to is the Hilton St. Charles. You are referring to the Hilton Riverside.

The Hilton St. Charles is directly across the street from the Intercontinental, so the location there is a push. The La Pavillion is one block north of the Intercontinental so distance is pretty much a push there as well.

As for ratings the hotels general rooms and amenities. I havent stayed at the La Pavillion but I have stayed at both the Hilton St. Charles and the Intercontinental and the rooms are almost identical. The lobby and amenities at the Intercontinental are slightly better.

I notice what I think to be the Staybridge Suites coming up during your dates for $49-$53 per night. This hotel is one or two blocks south of the Intercontinental so the location is once again a push. The idea of an all suite property downtown is always appealing to me. And while I do prefer staying in the quarter these hotel locales offer EASY walking to the quarter and parking is WAY easier. Hotels in the CBD are almost always a better value the the FQ. And speaking of value the hotel deals in New Orleans are simply the best in america. I would love to hear of a better deal than NOLA.

Thanks everyone for their input! I looked through trip advisor and saw most people recieved Intercontinental for about $50 from Priceline so I tried that. I am bummed to say I got the Wyndham right next to the convention center and almost a mile from the FQ. While the hotel looks fine, the location is exactly what I didn't want. Does anyone know any possible way to get out of this or have them assign me another hotel? I would be happy to pay more. If I had this to do over I would choose Le Pavillion from Hotwire and will do just that if I can get out of this....

Sorry to hear this one didn't work out for you, but when location within the zone is impoortant, HOTWIRE can often be a better option.

On a bright note the hotel isn't that far from the Quarter (i've walked it) and cabs are plentiful if you don't feel like walking.
