bostonbound Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Will be in Boston Oct. 25-27 '08. Want to stay in downtown area 3-4*. Doesn't seem to be a convention going on. Any suggestions on bid amounts?
Colfax Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Priceline has more than one zone in Downtown Boston. Which Downtown zones from Priceline's Boston map are acceptable? What kind of rates do you find for 4* and 3.5* on those dates? Bid amounts are based on regular hotel rates for your dates.
bostonbound Posted October 11, 2008 Author Report Posted October 11, 2008 I'm looking at Copley Square and Quincy Market. I would be happy w/ anything under $130. I also heard that the Hyatt near Chinatown is not in the greatest location. Is there any truth to that?
Colfax Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 I'm not familiar with the Hyatt Regency Boston so I can't comment on its location. I think the Hyatt is in Priceline's Quincy Market-Faneuil Hall-Financial District zone though, so if you don't want to stay at that hotel you might want to bid in Copley-Theater District only. Hotwire has a 4* in Quincy Market for $139 and Priceline usually beats Howtire on price. You have a good chance of winning a 3.5* or 4* on Priceline for less than $130 then. But there's no way to exclude the possibility of winning the Hyatt if you bid the Quincy Market zone. (The Boston Hotel List doesn't look totally up to date. The "Quincy Market-Faneuil" zone is still called "Downtown-Charlestown" in the List.)Do you want to bid to your $130 limit in just Copley-Theater first, before trying Quincy Market? Or do you want the least expesnive 3.5* or better available in either zone, even if that's the Hyatt?
bostonbound Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 I want the least expensive in either area. The Hyatt is not a problem... that was just something I read. What would be a reasonable initial bid?
Colfax Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 When bidding for 4* or 3.5* in Boston you have three rebid zones. Please ask before you bid if you need help identifying those rebid zones.I suggest you select Copley and Quincy Market zones and bid $65 for a 4*.Add rebid zone 1 and bid $70.Close browser and start new bid for Copley, Quincy and rebid zone 2, and bid $80.Close browser and start new bid for Copley, Quincy, and rebid zone 3, and bid $90.Add rebid zone 1, and bid $100.Close browser and start new bid for Copley, Quincy, and rebid zones 1 & 2, and bid $110.Close browser and start new bid for Copley, Quincy and rebid zones 2 & 3, and bid $120.Add rebid zone 1, and bid $130.If that doesn't work, repeat the process again, bidding for 3.5* instead of 4*.Please start your bid at this PRICELINE link and return to that link every time you close your browser and start a new bid. Good luck and let us know how it goes.======If you don't want to spend that much time bidding, a quicker but less refined strategy is:Select Copley and Quincy and bid $70 for a 3.5*. Then add your 3 rebid zones one at a time, raising your bid $20 with each addition, to $130. If a 4* hotel has a lower Priceline rate than the 3.5* your bid will be upgraded.
bostonbound Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 I do need help identifying the rebid zones. I've read a little about the process but am not familiar enough w/ Priceline to navigate to the rebid zones. Thanks so much for your help!
Colfax Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Here's a thread that explains how you find your rebid zones. Those are zones that only have lower quality hotels than you're seeking. Since you want a 3.5* or 4* hotel your rebid zones are zones that only have hotels of 3* quality or less.Take a look at this thread and then see if you can identify your three rebid zones for Boston:Priceline Re-Bidding Explained
bostonbound Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 Just got Hyatt 4* in Quincy Market area for $90. Thanks!
