population1 Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Is anyone masterful at booking hotels in NYC on Priceline? I am starting to get the feeling that a 4 star downtown at a decent $ is a pipe dream. How high would I need to bid to get a 4 star? Perhaps I should be looking in the 2.5 star hotel if I want to spend $100/$125? Any bidding suggested stratagies? Ideally I would like to stay in the Chelsea Area.
sf7307 Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 4* hotels in Manhattan go for $400 and up (non-Priceline, non-Hotwire). You won't get a 4* on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for $100-$125, except maybe in the middle January. What are your dates?
dahammer Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Welcome!a good deal to you may be at a price that is below what others are paying in the market, so this is a relative term. I would first start by looking at BetterBidding's Calendar of Wins to see the results of winning bids for your dates of travel. I would also go to HOTWIRE to gauge prices, for example $262 would get you a 2* in the HOTWIRE Central Park area. You need to let us know of an absolute maximum bid for your dates of travel as we would not want to suggest a bidding strategy that is greater than your budget. You also need to let us know of the zones you are willing to accept and the minimum star rating. It should be noted that we don't recommend bidding at the 2* or 2.5* level in NYC as the hotel quality really drops off and we really don't see too many winning bids at this level. Also, is Splitting Your Priceline Bid acceptable?

population1 Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 For sure I can split my days- that is not a problem. I just do not want to spend more then $130 a night and "would like" to be if at all possible near the Chelsea area. Any suggestions?

thereuare Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 A "deal" is relative, and $130/nite isn't usually enough for a hotel in Manhattan for this time of year... what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional methods?
