Priceline Hotel: 3* NYC (CPS) Hudson Hotel

From the way the commercials sound the hotels would be more likely to sell the room at a more discounted rate the closer the travel date is. This makes sense from a business point of view. "2 rooms left tonight? better drop the prices and have someone stay rather than leave the room empty."

Another argument could be the supply and demand one. "2 rooms left tonight? last minute shoppers will be desperate and pay a higher price to have a roof over their head."

What is the history with these sites. Do the prices go up or down as the date approaches?

Both! :)

Although you may be able to discern a trend in certain markets, there are no guarantees in any way. I think you'll generally come out ahead if you go for "pretty good" deals in advance, rather than holding out until the last minute for a fabulous deal, but that's just a gut feeling.

My trip is to nyc. I'm staying from oct 20th until the 26th. The last rejection I had was for $250 in all the midtown areas including south central park and empire state building area for a 3 star or higher. I'm going to give it another shot today. I'll start at midtown with 260 and add locations as I increase the price.

I noticed hotwire has a deal for just under 300 in the area i want. If i end up going that high I'll just use hotwire (with your link of course).

Just at my limit. Priceline must have bots reading this forum because they took what was to be my last bid on their site. I ended up "winning" with a $300 bid.

Central Park South, Empire State Building Area, Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square - Theatre District

3 Stars

I ended up getting a 3.5 star hotel, The Hudson.

The previous losing bid was at 290 and didn't include central park south.

A note about prices. On hotwire the prices seemed to have gone up by $17 from yesterday.
