you can get a 15 day Adult rail pass for $389, your dates are considered "off peak". Go to www.amtrak.com for details, here is a USA Rail Pass Map. There are discounts for senior citizens, students, Military, AAA (Automobile Association of America). With regards to your New York City booking, can you list your dates of travel, minimum star rating, and your maximum budget per night? As far as getting back from San Francisco, have you considered booking this flight back to the UK?

Hi,

Many thanks for replying - much appreciated and sorry for not getting back sooner.

New York City: Arrive at New York terminal 4 at 20:15hrs, Sunday 5th April. Hope to stay 3 nights before embarking on an, 'epic' rail journey. Min' star rating would be 3 star and max' budget per night would be around the $200 mark.

Regarding our return from San Francisco: We already have a flight booked from Newark on Friday, 17th April, to the UK, departing at 16:30hrs, terminal B.

We thought that we could stay in San Francisco (see the sights) for 2/3 nights (11/12/13th April) then head back to Newark, by flying so far... then hiring a car for the rest of the journey... hopefully arriving at Newark airport for Friday morning.

Once again many thanks for replying.

Take care,

Greg & Marie
