Priceline Hotel: 2.5* Richmond (Airport RIC) Clarion

I have been bidding for about 3 weeks (always through your link) for the Richmond airport area, 2.5 stars, for October 1. Have inched up from about $40 to $65, likely about the point I might as well use Marriott points for the Courtyard. There is only only one free rebid. At 2 weeks out am I not likely this is going to work? Do you have any suggestions? I am leary of 2*'s, but if someone has good infor a 2* there would be okay, I could try that.

Although there are likely others (sich as the Courtyard), there has only been one 2.5* property reported to the board (the Wingate Inn) and that was reported over 5 years ago! The hotels at this star level in this zone may not discount as much as in other areas or as much as the higher rated hotels in this zone.

Not sure how you value your Marriott points, but have you done a cost analysis on using points for this stay? How many points will it cost you and what is the value you place on a Marriott point? (i suspect it liklely that the 'cost of points' is more than $65, implying that you may want to consider raising your bid and/or trying for a 3* hotel)

EDIT TO ADD: i took a look and the 'standard' piont rate for the Courtyard is 10,000 points, which would bring your cost per point to .6 cents... i'm not a Marriott points expert (i mostly collect starwood points thru America PRICELINE EXPRESS Credit Card) but i suspect points are typically valued at least .01 per point)

There isn't a 3 star available for the zone, and the Wingate is gone, I think! This zone doesn't generate much traffic here, does it! I will keep trying, through the PRICELINE link. The cash rate is $161 for the Courtyard.

If you enter "Richmond Airport -Vancouver" (without the quotes... and the minus sign in front of Vancouver excludes Vancouver results since it too has posts with Richmond and Airport in the title) you'll see all wins for this zone.

Had been trying a while for the airport area. Nothing ever materialized. Today with the first bid of $61 I was offered an opportunity to add $17 and get the hotel. I didn't take the offer but used a single rebid and added $9. Got the Clarion for $70.

If you notice the date on the TA reviews most are from 2+ years ago... the most recent review is very positive so i would go with an open mind. Even including the older reviews, it seems like a "love it or hate it" type of place so hopefully you'll have a positive experience.
