ScottF12345 Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Hey Everyone,I could use some serious help. I don't know if it's because I am completely wiped out from this Ft. Lauderdale trip I'm on or if im just slowly losing my mind but I can't seem to think or comprehend the strategy I should use the way I normally can.I'm looking for a 3* waikiki area hotel for 7/31 through 8/9. The problem I'm having is the vast majority of 3*s that people are getting. Some of the reviews of the hotels people are getting are very mixed to very negative. I have already booked the Prince from 7/26-7/31 for a conference and am extremely happy, but I'm looking to turn the rest of it into a cheap business paid vacation. I'm looking for something with beach access and not too expensive. Any and all help/comments/rants/experiences would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I've been sitting watching the prices for the past 2 or 3 weeks and am starting to think its time for me to make a decision. The other thought I was having was to wait until I get down their and see which hotels I like and just go for them. Again my mind is rambling so anything anyone has to say would be great. ThanksScott
thereuare Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 What is the maximum you would want to bid?Have you had any bids rejected already? Since this is for a long stay (in Priceline terms) would you consider SPLITTING THE PRICELINE BID?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. ScottF12345 Posted July 12, 2004 Author Report Posted July 12, 2004 I'd like to bid max about 60. Splitting is no problem as I have already split this 15 day trip once. I'll definately split as much as needed. Also any experiences with these hotels would be great. I've read the reviews on here as well as TOBB but any more personal experiences would be great. Thanks.Scott
thereuare Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 One last question before i leave for a bit....I imagine the North and South zones are acceptable... how about Ihilani? There is only Resort class bidding there so you may not even be close to an accepted range (i don't know the area) but if you could at least be willing to end up there you could use it as a an add'l re-bid zone. The only hotels i could find in this zone are the JW Marriott (a likely candidate) and the Marriott Ko'Olina Beach Club. (there could always be others, but that's all i saw in the area) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ScottF12345 Posted July 13, 2004 Author Report Posted July 13, 2004 sorry it took so long to get back to you, tried to catch my flight home but it was canceled so i spent 10 hours at the airport. Ihilani is no problem although I'd prefer north or south but it doesnt seem like I'd get anything in ihilani anyways. Basically I just want to turn the rest of this trip into a vacation. I'm just trying to keep the price down and have a good place to stay. :)Scott
mr.drew Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, and it was fine. You should be able to get that one for your price range(on priceline), I think. It seems to be the most booked 3* in that area thru priceline. Having stayed there, I can say that it is a decent 3* hotel, and while it won't knock your socks off, it is just fine for the price. It is right in the middle of Waikiki, literally 4 minutes walk to the beach. Subway and Dunkin donuts right across the street, as is the ABC convenience store. The pool is nice, and there is entertainment nightly.I would definitely start with a 3* bid in the North zone(I think that is the correct zone for the Princess), and start at maybe $54.Good luck!!
thereuare Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 This is how i would proceed:You have 1 true re-bid zone (feel free to confirm it with us if you need to) and you're also willing to accept the Ihilani zone.Select 3* Waikiki South and...Bid $45, if rejected add North and...Bid $50, if rejected add Ihilani and...Bid $54, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $58.Give that a try first for the complete stay and if not successful then we'll start looking at how to split up the dates.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.If you really run into a jam Expedia is showing the Ohana Waikiki Village (believed to be a Priceline 3*) for $75/nite. ScottF12345 Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 For the last hour before I read your post I have been messing with priceline at 4*s for ridiculous prices, and then 3*s with the strategy of 50, 53, 57, 58. I got the park shore at 58 with split dates. I got it from 8/4-9th. This hotel has very mixed reviews but I can't complain all I want is cheap and by the beach and I got it. I was hoping for either the kuhio or the princess kialanu but oh well. 58 all the way to 65 was not accepted for the 31st-4th. I think I'm going to drop the 31st as I think thats causing the problem, and see if I can get the rest of the parkshore for 58 again. Unfortunately than I'll be stuck with the one saturday but I think i can than stick with the park shore for 70 as it seems to be the only 3* still available for that day. All the other competing hotels including the princess seem to not be available or way to high for the rest of the dates so dropping that sat may be my only choice. I really appreciate your response, unfortunately I didnt bid through savings barn this time because of my late check of the reply.
thereuare Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 At least you're part of the way there. :) Can you add which zone the Park Shore is in and then start a new thread for the 7/31-8/4 stay... this will allow us to stick with the existing format of including each hotel's name and zone in the title.Once a new thread is started i'll add a link that thread so other users viewing it in the future can follow along. thereuare Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 The balance of this stay is discussed in THIS THREAD. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
