Priceline Hotel: 3* Portland (Downtown) Marriott Waterfrtont

I have tried on consecutive days for the past week to bid on 4* hotel. Since these are only located downtown, I increased my bid and added another zone each time. All bids between $70-$116 have been rejected. Am I starting the bidding process :) too early and what's the likelihood that rooms at this level will open up prior to the 12th?

With less than 10 days to go before your stay i'm doubtful that you're starting the process too early.

HOTWIRE does have a 4* hotel (a match for the Avalon and that would be our best guess) for $134/nite... would this work for your plans or is your budget firm at the amounts you have already bid ($116/nite)?

After reviewing Roaming Jane's post, I decided to try for a 3* downtown hotel and got it on my first attempt:

Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront.......$60

By the way, the downtown hotel list seems to include hotels that are in NE Portland too, not just SW, even though the map looks like it essentially only includes SW Portland. Am I interpreting this correctly?

I think the Northwest Portland and South Waterfront zones are new, so it's possible that PRICELINE has redefined the boundaries of the Downtown area... are there specfic properties that you believe are listed in the Downtown zone but belong in some other, new, PRICELINE zone? (please let us know so that we can change them and edit the Priceline Hotel List accordingly)

I don't see any hotels in the Downtown Portland Hotel List that are in Northeast Portland. Which hotel(s) were you thinking of?

The Crowne Plaza hotel is a 3* hotel and located in NE Portland and the Red Lion Hotel on the River Jantzen Beach,another 3* hotel, is located quite a ways from downtown. These are the only 2 hotels not in downtown (SW Portland) on the Priceline site.

The zones that Priceline uses in its retail service are not the same as the zones it uses in its Name Your Own Price service. The "Downtown Portland" zone in the retail section contains five NYOP zones: Downtown Portland, Convention Center-Lloyd Center, Jantzen Beach-North Harbor, Northwest Portland, and South Waterfront District.

Thanks for the clarification. I wrongly assumed that hotels listed in the retail section in a specific zone would be the same hotels that one is bidding on in the NYOP zone. Do you know where I can find a list of NYOP hotels for each zone on the Priceline website?

Priceline doesn't offer lists of Name Your Own Price hotels. The closest you'll come are BetterBidding's Priceline Hotel Lists, pinned to the top of each state section. The BetterBidding Hotel Lists only include reported hotels. New hotels are added to the lists when reported.
