whodoesthat Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Hey Everyone,I am very new to this PRICELINE bidding concept. I am trying to get a 4* hotel in Hollywood for 9/18-9/22. My first bid was $100 and then I did a rebid using Redondo Beach-Manhattan beach for $110. I was still rejected. I didn't know what other rebid zones I could use. Can anyone help me with this bidding and give me suggestions on what to do next. Thanks! Also, how do you check the hotels in the rebid zones? I tried searching Lawndale in PRICELINE but they gave me hotels near LAX.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Let's take this one step at a time and first get the re-bid zones, and how to figure them out, straight... then we'll advise of a bidding strategy. From Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones... see if you can figure them out and confirm them with the board using the above technique. If the above is confusing and re-bidding still doesn't make sense just post back and we'll break it down further step-by-step.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. whodoesthat Posted September 1, 2008 Author Report Posted September 1, 2008 I figured out the bidding zones and used up all my rebids. I made bids from 100-148 yesterday for hotels in Hollywood and Beverly Hills and still didn't get anything. :) I would prefer to live in Hollywood, but I wouldn't mind Beverly Hills either. I haven't started bidding today, but could I get some suggestions? Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 What is your maximum bid for a 4* hotel? Are you willing to pay more to be in the Hollywood zone... or is the least expensive 4* or better what you're seeking?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 4* in Hollywood is usually more expensive than 4* in BevHills/WeHo.The 4* Hollywood Renaissance is $329 for your dates. HOTWIRE has a 4.5* in Hollywood/West Hollywood for $313.For these dates a PRICELINE 4* in Hollywood will take more than $148....maybe in the $175-225 range? Still a good discount from conventional rates. If you don't want to spend that much try for a 4* in BevHills/WeHo.
whodoesthat Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 I bid $150 bucks for a hotel in hollywood or beverly hills and still couldn't get anything. Does anyone know why my dates are expensive? From looking at previous posts, 4* hotels in beverly hills is usually less than 150 right?
thereuare Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 From looking at previous posts, 4* hotels in beverly hills is usually less than 150 right?Rates are date specific. Re-read the post immediately above your last one which indicates that rates for your dates are higher than usual... which means it will also likely require a higher than usual bid to get accepted.Have you looked at hotel direct rates for your stay at all? (use our BetterChecker) What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for your dates?
