Colfax Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 $40 rejected. $42 accepted. Regular rate was $79.Prior rejected bids:$65/3* Downtown$55/2.5* Downtown$50/3* Convention Center-Lloyd Center$50/2.5* Convention Center-Lloyd Center$60/2* NorthwestInn at the Convention Center is a very rundown hotel. Low price, free parking, light rail stop across the street, and friendly staff compensate for the hotel's general shabbiness. Rooms facing south have panoramic views of Downtown Portland but no highspeed. Rooms facing north have free highspeed but no view. At checkin I was asked whether I wanted a view or internet. I took the view.An aside about Portland's Northwest zone, where nobody ever seems to win anything: I got a $15 counteroffer to my $55/2* bid there. There are no free rebid zones for 2* so I tried $60 for 1*, hoping for an upgrade, and that was rejected. $60 was also as high as I was willing to go. The counteroffer means Priceline had something in Northwest zone though.Bids placed through BetterBidding's PRICELINE link.

Colfax Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 (my first thought when i saw the "2 star" in the topic title was "uh oh, hope this wasn't an ESA purchase for Colfax")Fortunately Portland is an ESA-free zone. There are a few ESA's in the Portland suburbs. I won't say Inn at Convention Center is nicer than an ESA. ICC was probably already 30-40 years old when the first ESA was built, and the Inn is sorely in need of new carpets, drapes, linens, furniture...basically everything. Still, it's quiet, convenient, and doesn't feel shady to me. I hope they don't renovate it though because then the price will double and Portland has already lost several of its cheap Downtown hotels to renovation and upscaling---the Jupiter, Modera, and Northrup Station all used to be inexpensive hotels under their former names and no longer are.I've got nothing against upscale hotels but Downtown Portland has a whole bunch of them now, and not many places left that are cheap and safe. I hope Downtown Portland never becomes like Downtown Seattle, where many nights $100 isn't enough for a dump.
