KalDonatelli Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Hi there, I am trying to book through Hotwire for the first time for this area after several unsucessful attempts on Priceline.Hotwire only shows two hotels for this specific area. A 2.5* and a 2* with no amenities. Is it pretty safe to say that the 2.5* is the days in and the 2* is the Candlewood?
dahammer Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 please list all of the the amenities for the 2.5* property. I don't see any 2* in Hoboken-Jersey City with zero amenities
KalDonatelli Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 The 2.5* has Restaurant, Laundry and Internet access.........the 2* isn't showing up on there anymore.
dahammer Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 the 2.5* is a match for the Days Inn. The problem with this zone is that it extends into North Bergen and includes some spotty hotels along a heavily travelled section of Rts. 1&9 called Tonelle Ave. The 2* with zero amenities could be the Howard Johnson Express or even worse. What was your maximum PRICELINE bid and at what Star level? If you proceed with this booking, please use the HOTWIRE links on the board. Thanks!
KalDonatelli Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Maximum priceline bid was $125 for a 3 star $90 for a 2.5 star and 90 for a 2*, no success. Was originally hoping for the Hyatt jersey City.
dahammer Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 the Candlewood is $230, the Courtyard is $349, the Doubletree is $359, and the Hyatt is a staggering $549 for your dates of travel. If you have bid up to your maximum, what is your back up plan? The 2* with no amenities is back on HOTWIRE for $79.
thereuare Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Will you have a car during this trip? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KalDonatelli Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 Yes I will have a car. Would it make sense then to maybe get a hotel in another area such as Elizabeth and just drive to a PATH station close by? I think it's only 10-15 miles out of Jersey City. We are planning on heading into Manhattan each day.
thereuare Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 There may be better options than Elizabeth, but you'll basically be bound by your budget... what is your expected nightly budget for this stay? Will you be in Manhattan from early morning until late at nite? What time would you anticipate your return (9pm, 11pm, 1am, 3am)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. KalDonatelli Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 Yeah probably until 11 PM each night......so safety is a big factor as well. I've heard that Newark isn't the best place to come home late at night but people who have stayed in Jersey City felt safe, at least in the hotel areas.........

KalDonatelli Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 Was hoping to keep it around $115-$125 MAX per night
thereuare Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 If you've already bid Jersey City up to your limit, and you'll have a car, then i would next look towards the Secaucus, North Bergen, Rutherford, and Meadowland zones, trying for a 3* hotel (which i think you can get within your budget). Each zone has hotels i'd rather avoid at the lower star ratings so i wouldn't bid lower than 3 stars just yet.Let us know if these zone(s) are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. KalDonatelli Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 Yep those zones would work for me assuming It won't be a hassle to commute into Manhattan each day.
thereuare Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 In the above zones you'll be commuting by bus, about 15-25 minutes into Manhattan (depending upon traffic). Some of the hotels have bus stops near the door, some offer shuttle service to the bus/train, and others (usually the lesser than 3* properties) you need some form of transportation to get to the bus stop (or it's a far walk). However, since you have a car the other option is to drive 5-10 minutes to the Park N Ride where you can part your car and take the bus into the city.Assuming all the above is sufficient...At the 3* level you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* Secaucus-North Bergen...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Meadowlands-Rutherford...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Secaucus-North Bergen and Meadowlands-Rutherford...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
