sidmon Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Im in UK and have booked my flights to NY arriving 11.50am Tuesday morning and departing Saturday 30th at 19.00pm. Have taken time to research the priceline idea and have made a cheeky first bid of
AaronJB Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Welcome to the site :)You will likely have to break your stay into 2 and, worst case scenario, 3 parts. What is your max price per night hotel budget?
sidmon Posted August 17, 2008 Author Report Posted August 17, 2008 Have now bid upto $160 a night for 2.5* and still nothing........I'm beginning to get sick of it now!
sidmon Posted August 17, 2008 Author Report Posted August 17, 2008 Haven't been able to find anything on priceline.com so I have booked the Days Inn at Long Island City for the first three days. I've spent half the day looking on priceline and have not had a offer accepted.....it all seems rather fruitless!
dahammer Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 it may seem fruitless, but that's because the low branches have been picked clean for the first three days of your stay; you'll need a ladder to reach the higher branches and succeed during these days. However, an excellent harvest has been reported on the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins starting on Friday 8/22 through Sunday (when a bumper crop of 7 wins are shown). Can't comment on the Days Inn, but I've stayed at the Comfort Inn, LIC and found it very accomodating.
sidmon Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 Thanks for the link, have bid to $180 (more than the bids that were accepted on your link) and still nothing! Are they discriminating against UK residents!!!
sidmon Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 Just bid $175 for a 2.5* in various suburbs from 08/22 to 08/25 but this was rejected!!! I'm on the verge of giving up with this idea as nothing ever seems to work!
thereuare Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Before you give up, for 8/22-8/25...Exactly which zones are you bidding? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional methods? (ie- if you give up with PRICELINE, where you will stay and how much will it cost)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. sidmon Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Anywhere in NYC except Brooklyn and I'll probably end up in the Days Inn Long Island City.....checked in today and it's basic but clean and newly built that fetches on average around $165 a night.
thereuare Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 For 8/22-8/25 would it be worth another $25/nite to stay directly in Manhattan? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. sidmon Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Would like to try and stay in Manhattan or surrounding area just as a difference to being Long Island (as reasonable value as it is). I really am beginning to think that priceline.com does not like me!
thereuare Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 For 8/22-8/25 would it be worth another $25/nite to stay directly in Manhattan? What is your current maximum bid? (have you revised it from $175)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
