veeRob Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I am looking to book a room in downtown San Diego for 9/19 - 9/21. Hotwire lists a 4.5-star hotel in Downtown - Harbor Island for $239/night. Amenities listed are Airport Shuttle, Fitness Service, Restaurant, and Internet. The list of HOTWIRE hotels leads me to believe it may be the U.S. Grant, but poor reviews online would make me rather save the money and get a 4-star. Anyone have any input?
thereuare Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Not sure what type of opinion you're seeking, but i dont' think the reviews are that bad. You have to remember that many are paying much more to stay here and they expect a bit more as a result... but it's often hard to live up to a $300 or $400 (or more) hotel nite. With that said, what are the price of the alternatives? The 4* in the Harbor Island on HOTWIRE is actually priced higher than this one... although there is a 4* in the Gaslamp Quarter which looks interesting, priced at $165/nite on my HOTWIRE search (Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Internet, Business) for which our best guess would be the Marriott Gaslamp. If correct this hotel gets very good reviews and might be a good, and less expensive, alternative to the above.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. veeRob Posted August 14, 2008 Author Report Posted August 14, 2008 Thanks for your reply! I was actually asking for opinions on whether my guess of U.S. Grant is correct or if there might be some other 4 1/2 star hotel. For that price, I'd rather stick with the regular rate I have at the Hard Rock for $249/night. I'm not seeing the prices you mentioned though... did you choose the same dates as I did? When I search Hotwire for those dates, it comes up with a 4-star hotel in Downtown - Harbor Island for $145/night, and I do not see any option for a 4* in Gaslamp Quarter. If I could get that Marriott for $165/night, I'd be booking that for sure. Am I missing something?
thereuare Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Yes, best guess is that the HOTWIRE hotel you first referenced is the US Grant.I did search previously for your dates, but the Gaslamp Quarter hotel i referenced is no longer appearing for your dates. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you ultimately do for this stay (even if it's keeping your current back-up at the Hard Rock) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
veeRob Posted August 15, 2008 Author Report Posted August 15, 2008 Will do. I love your site and definitely use your links when I remember. :)
