TIM V Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Need some help with bidding advice to stay in NYC August 16-August 19. If someone could help me with a bidding strategy I would appreciate it. Would like to stay at a 2.5star or higher. And the location just has to be in NYC, Midtown, downtown, is fine. Is $150 too little to pay to stay in NYC on the weekend? Thanks in advance
thereuare Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Are you sure you want to start at the 2.5* level... in NYC it's usually recommended to stick with the higher rated hotels. While there may be 2.5* properties which are acceptable to you... there may be others which are not, and when using the opaque providers you can't choose which type you will get. With the above noted, $150 may be a tough win for these dates, but let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like to start with. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- please follow-up your Priceline New Years Eve hotel stay thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
TIM V Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Ok I guess go with 3 star and above. It is for my fiancee and she is rather picky about her hotels. I told her I would try and get some advice so a bidding strategy would help. Thanks in advanceI ended up not evening bidding for that new years thread, so if it could be deleted, great.

thereuare Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 I ended up not evening bidding for that new years thread, so if it could be deleted, great. The thread will still have value to future bidders... please follow-up that you didn't end up bidding for that stay (and if you did still come to NYC for those dates please indicate what you did for that stay as it may give others an idea of what to do for their own difficult to book NYC stays)At the 3* level you have three re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* CPS, Downtown, MSG, MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* Chelsea and ESB...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* CPS, Downtown, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, and Chelsea...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* CPS, Downtown, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* CPS, Downtown, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, Chelsea, and ESB...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. TIM V Posted August 1, 2008 Author Report Posted August 1, 2008 I have a question. When it says use our link to re-access PRICELINE and I try to re-bid it still remembers that I tried to make the same bids, and tells me I have to change something. Also when I use your strategy, initially do I check all those zones and bid, or check 3 star and CPS zone, bid 105, and hit send. and then it comes back rejected, check downtown zone, bid 110 and hit send? I am a little confused. I havent had any luck getting any bids, and I bid up to 160. Maybe I need to bid more than that, or just wait and try another day
thereuare Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 You're not following the strategy as outlined above (and will be unable to do so if you don't understand the concept of re-bidding and how to determine your re-bid zones). At what point do you received the duplicate bid message? What are you using as your THREE re-bid zones? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TIM V Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 Finally won a hotel for $185 a night at the Washington Jefferson Hotel. Had to go down to 2 stars and up the amount per night but that was ok. I didnt realize NYC was such a ripoff for hotels per night. About as bad as Vegas on friday/saturday nights. Used the PRICELINE link from this site.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Congratualtions on your win!Sorry to hear that you had to pay more than you were expecting, but i wouldn't call the above (or weekend rates in Vegas) a 'rip-off' simply because rates are high. Rates are adjusted according to supply/demand factors and if demand is high, rates will likely be as well. Can you confirm that this property is still located in the MTW zone?Thank you for sharing your win with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
