welcher Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Last minute family trip to NYC, and I'm trying to get a hotel in the usual tourist areas. I've done all the resubmitting stuff talked about here (thanks for the tips, BTW), but I still can't get a price I'm ready to pay. (I've been spoiled by the two guys that got the Barclay for $140/night!)So my basic question is, am I too late? I would think that, as time approaches, a hotel would be more and more willing to lower the price on a room. The obvious counter to that, is that sooner or later those rooms all go away. What are the chances of me getting in to a 4* in the usual tourist areas of Manhattan for around $150?Thanks.
dahammer Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 The maximum price you want to pay is only relevant if its greater than or equal to the minimum price that a 4* hotel will accept. What is the amount of your highest bid and the zone(s) that you've bid? How many in your party and how many days will you need a room? Rates are date specific, so you can't really use the winning bid that is a week later than your dates of travel.
welcher Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Well, as I mentioned, I'd really like to get in close to the $140 those other guys got. I've gone up to $150 in MTE, MTW, TS, and ESB.There'll be two adults and two kids, but I don't care if we only get a single bed. We can make due for the one night.
AaronJB Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Unfortunately, there appears to be an event going on this week - something another poster mentioned when they talked to a hotel about changing their reservation. With 4* prices at $350-400 and in some cases way up from there, $140 is going to be extremely unlikely. You may have to go up towards $200.As dahammer mentioned, while someone may have gotten a good rate a week later, that doesn't matter for your dates - especially if there is, in fact, something going on on these dates.
thereuare Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 There'll be two adults and two kids, but I don't care if we only get a single bedWhile you might not care, the hotel might, as quad occupancy in NYC exceeds the legal ocupancy of many standards rooms. I wouldn't think it's likely, but if you received a hotel that cared or wanted to make a big deal out of it, you could be denied your room. With this noted, is staying in Jersey City and 'commuting' into NYC (less than 10 minutes via train) an option? If your plans aren't firm, you may also have a much easier time if you came a day earlier and looked for a hotel room for the nite of 8/3 as Sunday is usually the slowest nite of the week for hotels. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
