Priceline Hotel: 2* and up, NYC, 09/09 - 09/12

Hi everyone,

I am looking to book a cheap hotel room in the New York City area from 09/09 to 09/12. I need a 2 person room and would like to keep it as cheap as 80$/night or below. We would not mind travelling up to 40 minutes to the city, so we would also take a room in a a remote area. Since we don't have a car we would prefer areas that are reachable via subway. I'd appreciate any helpful advice.

We'll leave from JFK airport on the 12th. New York will be the last stop on our round trip, so we are going to arrive on September 9 (we are planning to check in at the hotel first and then return our rental car since we don't need it in New York anymore).

$80 doesn't go to far in Manhattan, and once you go outside of Manhattan ensuring that you're near a subway stop becomes less of certainty. HOTWIRE becomes a better optino as you can often try to identify the property before your purchase, and if you're able to figure it out, can determine how far away the nearest subway is located. However, searching HOTWIRE for your dates doesn't turn up much within your budget.

From where will you be driving to NYC from? There are some hotels on the NJ side of Manhattan which would be accessible to NYC via bus, but if you're returning the rental car to JFK it would be a LONG day driving out there, returning the rental, and then heading to the NJ hotel (and then to repeat the trip 3 days later to get from hotel to JFK).

The LGA Airport area seems like your best option to try, but as per above, there is no guarantee you'll be near a subway station... although if the hotel offers a shuttle to the airport you could take that, then take the bus from the airport to the subway, and then the subway into Manhattan... but this would likely take more than 40 minutes and would be a pain each time you wanted to head into the city and/or return.
