Priceline Hotel: Automated or Personal Review of Bids by Hotel?

Does anyone know how the review/accept/reject process works on the HOTEL SIDE?

Does a desk clerk personally review upcoming bids and manually decide or is everything automated?

Plan to bid shortly and would appreciate knowing.

What is the area that you are considering, mininum star level, maximum bid, date(s) of travel?

Also, can you please post a follow up to your Hilton Head topic? Thereuare requested a confirmation of all of the HOTWIRE amenities for the Quality Inn.

Want 3* Savannah Historic for one nite, 7/19/08

Tried PRICELINE. Debated if attempting during morning rush hour would mean my bid would go unnoticed IF MANUALLY reviewed. If bids are reviewed/accepted through an AUTOMATED PROCESS, time-of-day has lesser meaning (other than when their system is updated).

I tried the strategy someone suggested in another posting (adding other zones where no 3* are), but nothing accepted up to my...$120? bid. May try again later.

Really wanted to get the Holiday Inn/Mulberry St in Historic Savannah. Going to try again!

The process is entirely automated so it makes no difference what time of you day you place your bid.

To add to something else you touched upon, rates are updated by hotels constantly throughout the day, there is no "x o'clock update" at which point all rates for the day change.

If you're trying to target a specific hotel HOTWIRE may be a better option than PRICELINE since you have the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive before your purchase.

After bidding up to $121 for 3* on Priceline for Historic Savannah, and up to $73 for 2.5* (low, I know!) for Historic Savannah, we got a rate of $109+tax for Inn on Ellis Square by telephoning them direct! Now to work on cars.....
