Warbird Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 A bid of $40.00 per day was finally excepted for three days starting Friday, June 18th through Monday, June 21th. Taxes and Service Fees were $22.98. This weekend was the start of the rodeo in town. The third largest in the United States. I originally started bidding 3* in the Reno and Reno, South-Airport (RNO) zones. I bid up to about $50 with no success and started over bidding the 2* catagory. This motel was undergoing a renovation. It appeared rooms were being repainted and new carpet was being laid. A banner was flying above the entry advertising $79.00 per night. The reservation was made on May 17, 2004.La Quinta Inn Reno4001 Market StreetReno, Neveda

Warbird Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 Actually, I was there to observe the pilot rookie school (PRS) that was going on at Stead Airport. Every year in September is the Reno Air Races. Several classes of planes race including the Unlimiteds, AT-6's, Formula 1's, Bi-Plane, Sport plane, and now L39 Jets. My favorites are the Unlimited class. These planes are World War II vintage such as P-51 Mustangs, Bear Cats, and Hawker Sea Fury's among others. Rookie school is held for new pilots who want to race and old race pilots that haven't raced in a few years. This is an opportunity to get my fix of old warbirds that fly fast. There's nothing like the sound of a Round engine (Bear Cat) pushing 500 mph flying 100 ft above you. It makes the hair on the back of my head stand up. :)

Warbird Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 Yes, I believe I came across it last October/November when I was planning a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale and researching places to stay on this board. Nice picture! My wife has known me to get out of bed to see an airplane take off/land if it catches my ear. I'm going to post another question about the up coming EAA Airventure Airshow in Oshkosk, WI at the end of July when I find the right place to do it. My thanks to you for keeping this board running. It is really a valueable resource.John
