penkitty61 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 I was told that when I select a star rating, priceline will automatically bid on hotels with a higher star rating. I noticed that boutiques are listed above the 3* hotels. Is there any way to bid on a 3* without risking getting a boutique? I really don't want to end up with a smaller than normal hotel room. Thanks.
thereuare Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! When bidding on PRICELINE there is no way to avoid an 'upgrade'.If you're trying to target, or avoid, a specific hotel HOTWIRE may be a better solution.Given your cicumstances i think you'd be better off using HOTWIRE or bidding PRICELINE for a 4* hotel (assuming you'd be happy with a 4* property). What is your budget and the date(s) of your stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. penkitty61 Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 The dates of my stay are Aug 14-17. I've already bid on 4* hotels in USE area up to $105 but with no luck. I was hoping to find one for $100 or less. I'm willing to stay in a 3* but not a boutique.
thereuare Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Does anything appear on HOTWIRE which meets your minimum star rating and budget? What about adding the USW zone? (although it's still very early before your stay and don't know if you need to be 'compromising' just yet)I'll also add that if you're willing to stretch your budget a bit (say up to $120-$125) i think you have a pretty good chance at a 4* hotel. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts regarding the above and we'll take it from there. penkitty61 Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 I've added the USW zone already and with no luck. I've looked on HOTWIRE, and it looks like I could still end up with a boutique hotel for 3-3.5* rating. I think I may have to stretch my budget a bit.
thereuare Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 If you let us know your maximum bid we can suggest a strategy for you to follow. (also, let us know if both USE and USW are equally acceptable)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. penkitty61 Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 My maximum bid would be $125. I would prefer to stay in USE because it is a little closer to the Bart stations, but USW isn't completely ruled out.
thereuare Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 So would you like to bid up to $125 in the USE zone only before adding the USW zone... or is price ultimately the deciding factor and you'd prefer the least expensive 4* hotel in either of these zones?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. penkitty61 Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 Price is the ultimate deciding factor. The cheapest 4* in either USE or USW is fine.
thereuare Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Above you don't say how high you bid in the USW but i'm assuming it was at least $80... if this is correct then proceed with the following; if you haven't bid at least $80 in the USW zone yet post back and we'll revise the following accordingly. At the 4* level you have four re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* USE...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USW...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USE and USW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Colfax Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I would prefer to stay in USE because it is a little closer to the Bart stations, but USW isn't completely ruled out.Just to clarify, staying in USE doesn't always mean you'll be closer to BART. The Parc55 in USW is a block from BART. The Hilton Financial District in USE is more like six blocks from BART. In both zones you could end up a block from BART or as far away as 6-8 blocks. (But no farther.)
penkitty61 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 4* Parc 55 Hotel in USW @ $100 for 8/14-8/17
