Unfortunately this property has not yet been indentified and i'm not so sure i would spend $200 at this point for a non-refundable reservation in the summer where i didn't have a good guess as to the property.

I do see some possibilities for 4 star hotels at slightly higher prices which you could use as a back-up if you chose to continue trynig PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. How firm is your budget... how high would you be willing to go for a 4 star property?

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Hey thanks for the great feedback.

I'm not sure i would like to go higher than $220 for my stay.

I've never used priceline, and it would be my preference to use hotwire (I have a little bit of credit with them)

The above MTS hotel is the only one offered at under $220/nite, so you can take a chance with that one OR if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and go up an extra $9/nite

First two nites:

Belvedere for $229/nite which gets very good reviews

Last two nites:

Fitzpatrick Grand Central for $229/nite and gets excellent reviews

I'll be travelling with my girlfriend, so I can't imagine her agreeing to change hotels halfway. I just did a search on Price line for Central Park and found a 4* for $160 a night. That sounds like a real bargain! What do you think?

Priceline's "opaque" product doesn't give prices... and the "retail" product would tell you the name of the hotel.

What exactly did you do to determine that there is a Central Park property avaible for $160?

I did the name your price search for a 4* in Central Park South, but i didn't enter my credit card. i get it now, i made a tiny error and have yet to actually "bid" on my room.

Ok, so time to start over (like i said, first timer here)

Is $160 too cheap?

$160 to start or as a maximum bid?

For a 4* i think it's currently going to take well over $200/nite (and probably more than the $229/nite for each of the hotels above if you were willing to split), but if you let us know what your maximum bid is we'll suggest a strategy to that amount. Above you mentioned $220... is that your current maximum bid?

Which zones are you willing to accept?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi,

I need a little bidding help. I'm planning on going to NYC August 6 - 10, and I need a bid strategy.

I'd like to stay at a 4* in CPS, but would also accept MTE, MTW. Splitting rooms is not an option, and I wouldn't like to spend more than $210.

What's a good strategy to bid?

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread (it's been proven to be less confusing this way)... if you ultimately use PRICELINE we'll move the entire thread to that section of the board.

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* CPS, MTE, and MTW...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CPS, MTE, and MTW and re-bid zone5...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CPS, MTE, and MTW and re-bid zone6...

Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $210

Any questions feel free to ask.

OK i've tried, but there's one part i don't understand:

NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

My Bid was for CPS, MTE, and MTW.

What is rebid zone 1? Brooklyn?

Your rebid zones at the 4* level are:

Brooklyn

Chelsea

Long Island City

Madison Square Garden

Upper East Side

Upper West Side

Note: these are rebid zones only at the 4* level. Do not bid at a lower star rating without asking thereuare for a new strategy. (Otherwise you might find yourself in Brooklyn, Chelse, or Madison Square Garden!)

Re-bidding is adding a zone that only contains star ratings lower than the star level you are bidding. So if/when your bid is rejected, you can add this zone in order to bid again, and "know" that you won't receive a hotel in this zone since there are no hotels which meet your minimum star level requirements.

Have you read this this link: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained

Since you're new to re-bidding, it's strongly recommended that you confirm your re-bid zones wiht the board before bidding or ask any questions that you have regarding re-bidding, as you need to check the zones before each bidding cycle.

You can determine the highest star rating available in each zone using the following technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

While Liset provided zones above, we really don't recommend simply following zones posted as you need to know how to check these yourself as it needs to be done before every bidding cycle. Things can, and do, change at any time, so if one of the zones above has a 4* hotel added to it, or a hotel in that has beem upgraded, you easily end up in a zone you didn't intend (or want to bid). So please make sure you understand how to check your re-bid zones and do check them before you begin each bidding cycle.

Here's what i did:

4*

MTE, MTW, CPS

$140,

August 6-11.

Rejected.

How do i rebid for $150?

You need to back up for a minute...

List each zone in NYC like you did previously

Downtown - SoHo - Financial District Details

Empire State Building Area Details

Long Island City Details

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area Details

Midtown East Details

Midtown West Details

... and indicate next to each zone the highest star rated hotel available in each zone. (using the technique above)

If you're confused by the above don't get frustrated, just post back and we'll break it down further.

ok, i get it:

the following don't have 4 stars:

Brooklyn,

Chelsea

Long Island City Details

Madison Square Garden -

Upper East Side Details

Upper West Side Details.

So i'm to assume that they are rebid zone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, right?>

Posted

You got it :)

... and if i didn't stress it enough above, always doublecheck the above zones before starting a bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed, and that all the zones above only contain hotels rated less than 4 stars.

Have your dates now changed by adding an extra day?

Have you decided to now go for a 3* instead of a 4* property?

Please firm up your plans and what it is that you want from this stay (dates and star rating) and let us know once you are ready to bid... it helps save time researching rates and providing strategies for different scenarios if your plans are still in flux.
