Hi Everyone,

I need some help with bidding - Chicago downtown area. 4*. I've tried NMA and Loop up to 100 and no go right now. Is it better to bid closer to the date, or bid in advance. The dates are coming up soon! july 11-23. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Rates are date specific, and in Chicago it can often take more than $100 to win a 4* hotel (especially during the summer).

How high are you willing to bid on a 4* hotel? HOTWIRE does have a 3.5* in the Loop zone for $99/nite (Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Laundry) which is a match for the Club Quarters Central Loop so that would be our best guess, if this should work for your needs and your budget is firm and you choose not to continue to wait to see if lower priced inventory becomes available)

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know if you'd like to wait it out, increase your bid, lower your star rating, or if you think the 3.5* HOTWIRE hotel in the Loop would work for your needs... we'll take it from there.

I guess I wouldn't want to go more than 120/night for a 4*. I would prefer the NMA over the loop, but wouldn't mind if I ended up with the loop, if that was available. 99 dollars for the 3.5 isn't bad, but do you think if i wait it will go down alittle more? I don't mind waiting also.

So i would go up to 120 per night for a 4* (NMA preferred)

If waiting means theres a chance it'll go down, but not up, I wouldn't mind waiting.

3.5* could be last resort as the dates seem to be expensive.

Let me know what you think.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. If the above is rejected, we'll then open the discussion regarding waiting vs. taking the current HOTWIRE offer.

I followed the exact steps and used the PRICELINE link, and still no go.

"We're sorry, but we can't accept your offer of $120 for a hotel room in the Chicago, IL area. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number"

It's funny how July 4th weekend is cheaper then July 11th weekend. :)

So, I guess my options are wait it out, or accept the 3.5* hotel at 95 bucks. I guess i'll wait it out until after this weekend and try it again. I'll try a few more attemps this week. Would Priceline ever change it for those dates, or is it going to be hire then 120 no matter when i try it?

Thanks for the help. :) I'll try again next week.

Inventory changes, and rates are adjusted, all the time based upon supply / demand at the hotel. Just because you were rejected today doesn't mean that you'll be turned down tomorrow with the same bidding sequence.

However, just as rates can go down... they can go up also; so the $95/nite rate you're current using as your back-up could disappear as well.

If you choose to wait it's recommended to book a fully cancellable back-up... try Quickbook and also our BetterChecker for cancellable hotel direct rates.

Keep us updated or if you have any additional questions.

Oddly, if Hotwire is showing the Club Quarters Loop at $95 for 7/11-13, Orbitz is actually showing it for $94. Plus, the SUMMERFAM coupon code will get you another 10% off that, making it $84.60.

Not that I'd particularly recommend the CQ if you're coming to the city as a tourist (not that it's not a nice hotel, simply that it's a little out of the way and that the Loop area is empty later at night), but it is a good price if you're just looking for something cheap and don't mind a bit of extra walking.

It sounds like there is a convention in town. Chicago is a big convention town in the summer. 4th of July weekend is a holiday weekend, so these conference hotels with 2000+ rooms tend to go empty, i.e. results in an easy win on Priceline (for example Hyatt Regency is one such hotel shows up here often).

I always the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links from this board for my purchase!

I think i'm going to look into changing the date of my trip. It'll be my first time to chicago, we just plan to walk around the mile, visit the park, and maybe do alittle shopping. We wanted to stay in a nice hotel, but didn't want to break the bank. I'll find some more affordable dates and then bid again. thanks for all the help. I'll be back soon. :)
