vahome Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 hi all,1st time poster. was hoping you could help identify a hotel.using the HOTWIRE link here found a 4* at USE for $109, 7/19-7/20tried to compare the description w/ the hotwire hotel list and think it is the westin market st. (mainly b/c the "rooms are always smoke free" line- i think the grand hyatt has some smoking rooms)am i looking at it right?thanks!
Colfax Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding, vahome. Please post ALL the icons for the hotel you're trying to identify. Or is "Smoke-free rooms" the only icon?
vahome Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 thanks... the icons that show are:smoke free roomsrestaurantsfitness centerbusiness centerhigh speed internet accessfor hotel name, it's called a "Hotwire Hotel Supplier"3.5 / 5 rating on Tripadvisorthanks again.
Colfax Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 The last time the Westin Market Street was reported here it was with the same icons that you posted, vahome.Since icons frequently change I tried verifying the Westin Market's current icon set by searching Hotwire Vacation Packages for a few random sets of dates. Hotwire displays a hotel's current icons in Vacation Packages, along with the hotel's name. Unfortunately I couldn't make the Westin Market come up for any dates I tried. I can tell you that your mystery hotel is NOT the Grand Hyatt though, which shows up in Vacation Packages with different icons.Hotwire says your hotel is 3.5 on TripAdvisor with 120+ reviews. The Westin Market is 4.0 on TripAdivsor with 113 reviews. That doesn't sound like a match.Nonetheless I think the Westin Market is most likely. The Westin Market used to be the Argent Hotel, and the Argent still shows up on TripAdvisor, with a 3.5 rating and 134 reviews. I think Hotwire might be using the Westin Market's former name for their TripAdvisor data, and if they are then the data match. And the Westin Market IS smoke-free.If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what you get.
vahome Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 Thank you very much for the help.I most certainly will use the links. I saw on the PRICELINE board that someone got the Westin for the same date for $85, so I might try that route as well.

vahome Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 just wanted to let you know i ended up using the PRICELINE link and getting the westin for $85. will post on the PRICELINE forum as well. at any rate, thanks again for helping ID it.
vahome Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 I first found a 4* listed under Hotwire for $109, and the folks in the Hotwire forum told me it was for this hotel.Using PRICELINE link tried first $80, rejected, PL told me I can rebid and get if I was willing to raise my offer by $22. Instead I retried the bid at $85, added USW, and got the Westin Market St.$85 seems to be the number that works, I noticed another poster here w/ overlapping dates who also got it at $85.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to hear you're happy with the results and the information on the board was helpful in your purchase. Thanks for posting your win to the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Tracy Yip Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 I read the other posts about getting Westin for $85 and tried to replicate the same strategy on 6 nights in SF on PL:1) $80, USE, 4*, 18/7 - 24/7 (rejected)2) $85, USE + Fisherman's Wharf, 4*, 18/7 - 24/7 (rejected)3) $90, USE + Fisherman's Wharf + USW, 4*, 18/7 - 24/7 (rejected)4) $85, USE + Fisherman's Wharf + USW, 4*, 18/7 - 20/7 (successful - Westin Mkt St)I was able to get the $85 rate after I decided to break my stay up into 2 parts, seems that the $85 rate is only good for weekends.
