There are two different Holiday Inn Expresses in the Coastal zone. The other one, so far unreported on Priceline, is the Holiday Inn Express-Sea World, on Jupiter Avenue.

The hotel's regular price was $99.95. On the day I stayed that was the lowest rack rate among all 26 San Diego area Holiday Inns. After staying one night I can understand why; this hotel has little to recommend it. (The other Holiday Inn Express in the Coastal zone was $149.)

The room itself was okay, typical Holiday Inn Express, but the location is terrible. There's nothing "Coastal" about it. The hotel is just off I-5 in a jumble of brake and muffler shops, mini-storage lockers and etc. It's an obvious infill project, shoehorned into an area not large enough for a hotel of that size. Everything about the place felt cramped. Parking lot was too small, parking spaces too small, minimal grounds or greenery. The hotel is very difficult to find, even when you can see it. The access road is poorly marked and if you miss it you're forced into a long detour through heavy traffic. It took me three passes and 10-15 minutes to navigate the couple blocks from I-5 to the hotel.

The desk staff were friendly and competent. Room was clean and functional. But this location is not what people visit San Diego for. When I bid I was hoping for some little motor court hotel within walking distance of the beach, a Best Western or someting. This wasn't that and I won't bid 2* in the Coastal zone again.
