nyupenn Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Need 2 rooms in Jeresy City or Secaucus (or other towns close to public transport to NYC) for 8/6-8/9.For Jeresy City, besides 4 star Hyatt (too expensive) only see 2.5 star with restaurant, laundry, internet at $109. Has been identified as likely Days Inn not worth staying. For Secaucus-Meadowlands, there is 3 star w/fitness, pool, rest., business center, internet and golf nearby at $85 (3.5/5 TA). Has been identified as likely Sheraton Meadowlands. Also there is 3.5 star, w/fitness, pool, rest., business center, laundry, internet at $123 (3/5 TA). Looks like it could be Crowne Plaza. We will have a car and will be willing to drive to train or bus station, but don't want to drive into NYC.Any ideas if Secauc-Mead identifications are likely. If so, are they recommended and are they close to public transport (by car)? Other ideas? Thanks, love this site!
dahammer Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 The Crowne Plaza is one block from the NJ transit bus and in the morning before 10:00 AM, its a 20 minute ride to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Crowne Plaza got pretty mediocre ratings on TripAdvisor. Do you know anything about it? The 3-star (likely Sheraton Meadowlands) is cheaper. Would you recommend that? Finally, any suggestions re: Jersey City? Thanks so much for your help.

thereuare Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. We agree with your two hotel identifications above... those would be our best guess as well. The Sheraton is a slightly nice hotel (imo), but more isolated (can't really walk to anything nearby) and to get to mass transit you either need to drive or take the hotel shuttle (non on demand, as per their schdule) which is less convenient than the Crowne Plaza offers transportation to NYC a block from the hotel (so you don't need to drive at all) and also has a few things that are nearby which you could walk to.If rates were the same i would choose the Crowne Plaza, but with a $30-$40 difference it comes down to personal preference (cost vs. convenience). The other thing to note is that the Crowne Plaza has a cancellable rate on their website for your dates of $126/nite (which would end up being less than the HOTWIRE rate above once their fee is included)... you could also book that (please use this Crowne Plaza link or the one in our support page) and then wait to make a decision, using this as your "price to beat" while you hope for a better deal. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nyupenn Posted June 11, 2008 Author Report Posted June 11, 2008 Looking for tips on Priceline bidding for 8/8-8/11 @ Hyatt on the Hudson (2 rooms).Currently $143/room on HOTWIRE.How likely will a 3-star bid for Jersey City produce the Hyatt? What should my bid be?Thanks for your help. Love the site.
thereuare Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.2xHow likely will a 3-star bid for Jersey City produce the Hyatt? There are two reported hotels won at the 3* level in this area, so one could say your chances are 50/50. However, the Hyatt comes up more frequently than the Doubletree, but for your particular dates you could win either (or some other not yet reported property)What should my bid be?What is your maximum bid for this stay, from there we can suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. dahammer Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread, you will actually get a better response from the moderators this way.please reply to thereuare's last postBTW, which one is it? NYU or Penn?
nyupenn Posted June 12, 2008 Author Report Posted June 12, 2008 Hoping to spend not more than $100/room/night. Could go a little higher if necessary.Thanks.
thereuare Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 At the 3* level you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. With time on your side i would begin as follows:Select 3* Jersey City...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $86.The above may very well be too low, but if rejected post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. nyupenn Posted June 15, 2008 Author Report Posted June 15, 2008 As you predicted, $75 and $86 were rejected.Where do I go from here? Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 24 hours after your last rejected bid i'd re-try as follows:With time on your side i would begin as follows:Select 3* Jersey City...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
