Need 2 rooms in Jeresy City or Secaucus (or other towns close to public transport to NYC) for 8/6-8/9.

For Jeresy City, besides 4 star Hyatt (too expensive) only see 2.5 star with restaurant, laundry, internet at $109. Has been identified as likely Days Inn not worth staying.

For Secaucus-Meadowlands, there is 3 star w/fitness, pool, rest., business center, internet and golf nearby at $85 (3.5/5 TA). Has been identified as likely Sheraton Meadowlands.

Also there is 3.5 star, w/fitness, pool, rest., business center, laundry, internet at $123 (3/5 TA). Looks like it could be Crowne Plaza.

We will have a car and will be willing to drive to train or bus station, but don't want to drive into NYC.

Any ideas if Secauc-Mead identifications are likely. If so, are they recommended and are they close to public transport (by car)? Other ideas?

Thanks, love this site!

The Crowne Plaza is one block from the NJ transit bus and in the morning before 10:00 AM, its a 20 minute ride to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Thanks for the response. Crowne Plaza got pretty mediocre ratings on TripAdvisor. Do you know anything about it? The 3-star (likely Sheraton Meadowlands) is cheaper. Would you recommend that?

Finally, any suggestions re: Jersey City?

Thanks so much for your help.

We agree with your two hotel identifications above... those would be our best guess as well.

The Sheraton is a slightly nice hotel (imo), but more isolated (can't really walk to anything nearby) and to get to mass transit you either need to drive or take the hotel shuttle (non on demand, as per their schdule) which is less convenient than the Crowne Plaza offers transportation to NYC a block from the hotel (so you don't need to drive at all) and also has a few things that are nearby which you could walk to.

If rates were the same i would choose the Crowne Plaza, but with a $30-$40 difference it comes down to personal preference (cost vs. convenience).

The other thing to note is that the Crowne Plaza has a cancellable rate on their website for your dates of $126/nite (which would end up being less than the HOTWIRE rate above once their fee is included)... you could also book that (please use this Crowne Plaza link or the one in our support page) and then wait to make a decision, using this as your "price to beat" while you hope for a better deal.

Looking for tips on Priceline bidding for 8/8-8/11 @ Hyatt on the Hudson (2 rooms).

Currently $143/room on HOTWIRE.

How likely will a 3-star bid for Jersey City produce the Hyatt?

What should my bid be?

Thanks for your help. Love the site.

How likely will a 3-star bid for Jersey City produce the Hyatt?
There are two reported hotels won at the 3* level in this area, so one could say your chances are 50/50. However, the Hyatt comes up more frequently than the Doubletree, but for your particular dates you could win either (or some other not yet reported property)
What should my bid be?
What is your maximum bid for this stay, from there we can suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Looking for 2 rooms @ Hyatt on the Hudson in Jersey City 8/8-8/11.

Hotwire currently showing $143/night.

How likely that will get Hyatt on Priceline by bidding 3* in Jersey City?

Any suggestions for bidding strategy?

Thanks for your help.

At the 3* level you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

With time on your side i would begin as follows:

Select 3* Jersey City...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $86.

The above may very well be too low, but if rejected post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Did exactly what you suggested. Was rejected at $93, but accepted at $100 for Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson after adding re-bid zone.

(This was for 2 rooms for 8/8-8/11/08).

Thanks very much for your help.
