I've been bidding (through Savings Barn) on 4 and 5* hotels in Vienna for over a month now. No counter offers. I checked Vienna and there appears to be a trade show ending on the 23rd, which might explain not getting a room? I've tried bidding the two nights separately, too.

I've bid from $85-120 for a 4* in Central, and up to $157 for a 5 star, also Central, though I've been using the free bid zones.

I hesitate to move outside the city center after my recent trip to Prague.

I've tried the hotel services that pop up through TripAdvisor (the German versions, since my internet connection throws me to German as default) and prices have run 170-350 euro. Priceline's cheapest 4* is Sofitel for $232. I am going to make refundable reservation, then keep trying. Let me know if you know any decent places, or good hotel sites. If I don't get something under $160, I'll probably cancel the trip. I wil only consider central Vienna after my Prague suburb experience. I should have checked for trade fairs, etc, before I booked the Vienna flight. Thanks! GA

Have you looked at Accorhotels (accessible through BB linkin the suport.page)?

There's nothing really cheap, and the prices on the front page do not necessarily match the real price. But I think you could get a Novotel or Mercure that was not too badly located in the range of 120-140 Euros per night all-in. Based on my limited experience, and on the postings of others, I think Novotel and Mercure hotels can vary but tend to be in about the 3.5* range, but of course it's best to check the reviews.
