I've only seen a few wins for the Hyatt in Jersey City in May/June for under $100. I'm not sure what the demand is for hotel rooms in June, but I'd like to bid $85 for my dates (tightish budget). Is this a realistic offer? I'm not flexible on dates...

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I don't think your budget is realistic for a 3* hotel in this area for the dates above.

If you want to try, you have one re-bid zone at the 3* level in Jersey City. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Jersey City...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $85.

Any questions feel free to ask.

If the above is rejected let us know how you're getting to the area (driving, flying (which airport), train, etc) and we'll advise of some of your other options.

OK, I got rejected on Priceline at $90 as well and have run out of rebid zones...

I am travelling from Boston, MA by train or bus/coach (not sure which yet). I had read about good reviews and transport links from the Hyatt or Doubletree but I'm open to any suggestions about other good hotels or areas in New York.

Thanks for your advice.

You're next best locations will be the Secaucus-North Bergen and Meadowlands-Rutherford areas.

The issue, however, is that not all properties have easy access to transportation, which makes using HOTWIRE a potentially better option. (since you an at least take an educated guess as to what you will get beforehand, and then determine your transportation options before committing)

There is a 3* on HOTWIRE believed to be the La Quinta Inn and Suites for $103. The advantage is that if correct, this property has a bus virtually at the door which will have you into Manhattan in about 15-20 minutes... the downside is that the hotel gets poor reviews, although board member dahammer recently commented (i believe ti was this property) that the hotel is not nearly as bad as the reviews make it out to be and he thinks the hotel is fine... but hopefully he'll comment in this thread once he sees it)

I have stayed at the LaQuinta property twice....and twice when it was a Wyndham, and three times when it was a Prime Suites, possibly once as a Radisson :) Given the chance, I would stay here again, I really don't agree with the negative reviews. I guess my only criticism of the property is that the staff is a little indifferent, and the recent refurbish was done with a minimal budget. Carpeting was replaced and rooms were painted a bright yellow, bathrooms were not changed. The hotel is located in the Mill Creek/Harmon Meadowns development and there are several restaurants, a WalMart and Sam's Club nearby. The benefit of staying here is that you can walk outside and catch the Route 320 Bus to NYC, and before 10:00 am its about 25 minutes to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The Lincoln tunnel has a "bus only" lane up to 10:00 am and the bus just whizzes by all of the cars idling in traffic that line up to pay an $8 toll.

The LQ is no Embassy Suites, but you get free breakfast, free parking, and free wifi. Staying in the Secaucus area is really a third choice in order of preference for visiting NYC. First choice, of course, is staying in New York, but with insane hotel rates that hover around $400 at peak times makes it difficult to justify. Second choice is Jersey City, specifically the Hyatt, Courtyard, Doubletree, and Candlewood Suites since the PATH train is nearby.
